Michael Santiago Render, known professionally as Killer Mike, is an American rapper, singer, actor, and activist from Atlanta, Georgia. Michael Santiago Render was born on April 20, 1975, in the Adamsville neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. He is the son of a policeman and a florist, and because his parents were teenagers at the time of his birth, he was partly raised by his grandparents in the nearby Collier Heights neighborhood of Atlanta. He attended Douglass High School, where his interest in hip-hop culture and community life in Atlanta took shape.
Growing up in Atlanta placed Render at the center of a thriving Southern hip-hop scene. In 1995, he briefly enrolled at Morehouse College, where he met producers The Beat Bullies and was introduced to Big Boi of Outkast. These early connections opened the door to studio work and helped him transition from a college-aged music fan to a working artist inside one of the most influential rap communities in the country.

Render’s earliest recorded appearance came on Outkast’s 2000 album Stankonia, where he was featured on the track “Snappin’ & Trappin’”.
