Early Life and Background
Amanda Leigh Moore was born on April 10, 1984, in Nashua, New Hampshire, to Stacy Moore, a former news reporter, and Donald Moore, a pilot for American Airlines. When she was only two months old, her family relocated to Longwood, Florida, outside of Orlando, because of her father’s job. She grew up in that Central Florida community with her older brother Scott and younger brother Kyle, and is the stepsister of actress Carly Craig.
Moore developed an early interest in performing arts and was inspired by her British maternal grandmother, Eileen Friedman, a professional ballerina. She attended the Park Maitland School, where she discovered her passion for singing and the stage. She went on to attend Bishop Moore Catholic High School in Orlando, where she eventually left school in the ninth grade to be tutored while pursuing a recording contract.
Path to Acting
Moore began performing in lead roles in local productions and singing the national anthem at events around Orlando. At twelve, she attended the Stagedoor Manor performing arts camp, where she earned solos and built confidence as a young performer. By the time she was thirteen, she had started working on original music in a local studio.
A delivery man named Victor Cade overheard her during a recording session and shared her demo with a friend in A&R at Epic Records. The connection led to her signing with the label and, in 1999, the release of her debut single Candy. She balanced her early music career with acting lessons and schoolwork, eventually transitioning from pop star to film actress with small roles in 2001 before landing her first lead in A Walk to Remember in 2002.
