Nolan North Bio
Nolan North (born October 31, 1970) is an American actor and voice actor whose career spans television, animation, and an especially prolific body of work in video games. He first gained attention as a daytime television actor before shifting his focus to voice performance, motion capture and narration, becoming widely known for the motion-captured protagonist Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series and for numerous recurring roles across major game and animation franchises.
Early Life and Background
Nolan North was born in New Haven, Connecticut and was raised in Warwick, Rhode Island. He attended Bishop Hendricken High School, where he played baseball, and later earned a scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he majored in journalism while continuing to play collegiate baseball.
After college North spent a year working as a reporter in New Jersey before relocating to New York City to pursue stand-up comedy and acting opportunities. Those early years in performance and reporting provided practical experience with timing, character work and vocal control that later informed his approach to voice acting and motion capture.
Path to Celebrity
North moved to Los Angeles and in 1997 secured a regular television role as Dr. Chris Ramsey on the soap opera Port Charles, which marked his first substantial exposure to national television audiences. He continued to take occasional voice roles for video games during his time on the soap, building initial credits that foreshadowed a later career pivot.
When Port Charles ended in 2003 North deliberately shifted his professional emphasis toward voice performance and motion-capture work. That transition coincided with the expanding role of cinematic storytelling in video games, creating new opportunities for actors with theatre and screen experience to perform nuanced character work for interactive media.

Following the cancellation of Port Charles in 2003 North concentrated on voice work, steadily expanding his credits across animation and video games. His early post-soap years involved a mixture of supporting voice roles, episodic animation work and smaller game performances that helped him develop a reputation for versatility and professionalism in studio sessions.

North’s career-defining breakthrough came in 2007 when he provided the voice and motion-capture performance for Nathan Drake in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. He continued to portray Nathan Drake in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009), Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (2011), and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (2016), earning sustained recognition for his characterization across the series. For his work as Drake, North received industry nominations and attention that helped raise the profile of performance in games generally.
Alongside Uncharted, North built an expansive roster of credited roles in major franchises during this period. He voiced Desmond Miles in the Assassin’s Creed series, contributed voices in Final Fantasy XII, The Last of Us and Call of Duty’s Zombies mode, and performed a wide array of characters in team-based and multiplayer titles, demonstrating a broad vocal range and facility for both lead and character parts.
