Sasha Sergei Mitchell (born July 27, 1967) is an American actor and martial artist best known for his television roles as Cody Lambert on Step by Step and James Beaumont on Dallas. He is also recognized for playing David Sloan in three installments of the original Kickboxer film franchise. Mitchell holds a black belt in taekwondo, a discipline that complemented his on-screen martial arts work. Sasha Sergei Mitchell was born on July 27, 1967, in Los Angeles, California. He is the son of a garment manufacturer and is of Ukrainian Jewish descent. His ancestors came to the United States from Kyiv, Ukraine, and his real family name is Muchnik. Growing up in Los Angeles placed him near the heart of the American entertainment industry, where he would later pursue a career in acting.
Before stepping in front of the camera, Mitchell cultivated interests in martial arts and physical performance. He eventually earned a black belt in taekwondo, a foundation that would shape many of his future roles in action-oriented productions. Ewing and his long-ago girlfriend Vanessa Beaumont. He remained with Dallas from 1989 to 1991 and also made guest appearances on other series, including Rags to Riches.
During this period, Mitchell also appeared in a 3 Musketeers commercial in 1989, expanding his visibility beyond scripted series. In 1990, Mitchell married Jeannette Robbins. The couple had four children together before divorcing in 1997. During their marriage, Mitchell was convicted in 1996 of misdemeanor battery, spousal abuse, and child endangerment stemming from an altercation with his wife. He received three years’ probation and was ordered to perform community service and attend counseling classes for spousal abusers. After violating his probation, he was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
In December 2010, Mitchell married his second wife Rachel, also known as Sharmaine Rayner. He filed for divorce in spring 2015.
