Matthew Scott Porter (born July 14, 1979) is an American actor and voice performer best known for his work in television and film. He rose to prominence playing Jason Street on Friday Night Lights and George Tucker on Hart of Dixie, and later appeared as Mayor Paul Randolph in Ginny & Georgia. Porter has also acted in films such as Bandslam, Speed Racer, Dear John, and The Good Guy. Early Life and Background
Matthew Scott Porter was born on July 14, 1979, in Omaha, Nebraska, and grew up in Winter Park, Florida. He attended Lake Howell High School, where he was a wide receiver on the football team and graduated in 1997. During his high school years, he was also a member of the choral department and a founding member of the musical groups 4:2:Five (now known as VoicePlay) and Mosaic.
Porter continued his education at the University of Central Florida, where he sang vocal percussion in the a cappella vocal group 4:2:Five. He worked various jobs during college, including working as a babysitter, and focused on his studies and performing rather than partying. His early exposure to music and performance laid the foundation for his future career in entertainment.
Path to Acting
Porter began his professional acting career on stage before transitioning to screen work. In 2004, he joined the original cast of the Off-Broadway hit Altar Boyz, playing the character Matthew.
