Stephen John Emery (born 11 October 1969), known professionally as Stephen Moyer, is an English actor and film director. He trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and began his career in theatre before moving into television and film. He is best known for portraying Bill Compton in HBO's True Blood. His screen credits include the lead in Prince Valiant (1997) and, from 2017 to 2019, Reed Strucker in Fox's The Gifted. He has a son Billy and a daughter Lilac with his first wife Lorien Haynes, and a son Charlie and a daughter Poppy with Anna Paquin; the family resides in Venice, Los Angeles. Moyer was born in Brentwood, Essex and attended St Martin’s, a comprehensive school in Hutton, Essex. He graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).
