Thomas J. Pelphrey was born on July 28, 1982, in Howell Township, New Jersey, to Laurie (née Demgard) and Richard Pelphrey. He grew up in Howell Township and graduated from Howell High School in 2000 before enrolling at Rutgers University, Mason Gross School of the Arts, where he completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2004.
