Early Life and Background
Alon Day was born on 4 November 1991 in Ashdod, Israel, and grew up in the same coastal city. He is Jewish, and his family background includes a father, Avi Day, who owns a geological-engineering company involved in mineral drilling. His mother, Maggi, originally immigrated to Israel from France, giving the family a blend of Israeli and French heritage.
Day began his racing career with go-karts at the age of 10. For his bar mitzvah, his father gave him a karting vehicle that cost NIS 20,000, which helped launch his formal entry into the sport. After completing high school, he served three years in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), where he was recognized as an outstanding sportsman, the only Israeli in a Formula sport to receive that status. He was accepted into the Israeli Air Force pilots’ training course but chose to pursue racing instead.
Path to NASCAR
Day’s professional racing path began in single-seater formula cars, where he won the Asian Formula Renault Challenge championship in 2009 at the age of seventeen. He then moved to the German Formula Three Championship in 2010 with Performance Racing, finishing ninth in points with a best result of fourth place. Returning to the series in 2011 with HS Engineering, he improved to fourth in points, earned two podium finishes, and won the pole position at the Sachsenring.
In 2012, Day transitioned to North American open-wheel racing, signing with Belardi Auto Racing in the Firestone Indy Lights series. He made six starts for the team before they parted ways in June at Iowa Speedway. Sponsored by the Jewish Racing Drivers Association, he became the first Israeli driver to compete in an IndyCar-sanctioned series. His move to stock car racing came in 2015, when he made his NASCAR debut in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series at Valencia, posting a top-ten finish in the season opener and capturing his first NASCAR victory at Magione in the semifinals.
