Loma Lookboonmee Bio
Suphisara Konlack, known professionally as Loma Lookboonmee, is a Thai martial artist who has competed in Muay Thai, boxing, kickboxing, and mixed martial arts. Born on January 18, 1996, in Buriram, Thailand, she rose through the ranks of Thai striking sports before transitioning to professional mixed martial arts. She is recognized as the first Thai fighter to sign with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where she competes in the women’s strawweight division. Based in Phuket, Thailand, she continues to represent her country on the global stage.
Early Life and Background
Loma Lookboonmee was born on January 18, 1996, in Buriram, Thailand. She began training Muay Thai at seven years old at her father Boonmee Suphisara’s gym, an early foundation that shaped her striking career. Growing up around a family gym gave her direct exposure to the discipline, and she began competing soon after starting her training.
At first, Lookboonmee competed against other girls, but the limited number of female opponents in her region soon pushed her into bouts against boys. She met that challenge and went on to accumulate several titles while representing Thailand on the national team. These formative experiences built the technical base and competitive mindset that she would later carry into mixed martial arts.
Path to MMA
Lookboonmee transitioned to mixed martial arts in 2017, training under coach George Hickman at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket. Her amateur debut came at the music and MMA festival RockWars on September 23, where she submitted Filipina fighter Krisna Limbaga by rear-naked choke in the second round. The performance was enough to convince her to turn professional almost immediately.
In October 2017, she signed with Invicta Fighting Championships and made her professional debut in January 2018 at Invicta FC 27. Across her run with the promotion, she built a record of three wins against one loss, which set the stage for her move to the world’s largest MMA organization. In September 2019, it was announced that she had signed with the UFC, becoming the first Thai fighter ever to do so.
Loma Lookboonmee Career
Early Career (2017–2019)
After her amateur debut at RockWars, Lookboonmee quickly turned professional and joined Invicta Fighting Championships. Her time with Invicta provided her with consistent high-level opposition and helped her refine a well-rounded skill set built on her Muay Thai base. During this stretch, she developed the grappling and submission skills that would later become a notable part of her game, including earning a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
She compiled a record of three wins and one loss in Invicta before signing with the UFC in September 2019. Her résumé as a striker, combined with her growing ground game, made her a unique prospect and a historic signing for Thai combat sports.
UFC Breakthrough (2019–2021)
Lookboonmee made her UFC debut against Aleksandra Albu at UFC on ESPN+ 20 and won the fight by split decision. Her first Octagon victory announced her arrival on the biggest stage in MMA and gave Thailand its first UFC win. She followed that with a unanimous decision loss to a late-replacement Angela Hill at UFC Fight Night 168, a setback that taught her the importance of adaptation in a stacked division.
She responded with back-to-back unanimous decision wins over Jinh Yu Frey and Sam Hughes, the latter coming as the first bout of a new multi-fight contract at UFC on ESPN: Reyes vs. Procházka in May 2021. A scheduled bout with Cheyanne Buys at UFC Fight Night 198 ended in a unanimous decision loss to replacement opponent Lupita Godinez. By the end of 2021, Lookboonmee had established herself as a durable and evolving competitor in the strawweight division.
Recent UFC Run (2022–Present)
In 2022, Lookboonmee faced Denise Gomes at UFC Fight Night 210 and won by unanimous decision. She then picked up one of the most memorable finishes of her career against Elise Reed, winning by rear-naked choke in the second round. The submission win highlighted her growth as a grappler and her willingness to mix striking with ground technique.
She continued her momentum in 2024 with a unanimous decision victory over Bruna Brasil at UFC Fight Night 236. In April 2025, she defeated replacement opponent Istela Nunes by unanimous decision at UFC on ESPN 65, after original opponent Ariane Carnelossi withdrew due to injury. Most recently, she faced Alexia Thainara at UFC Fight Night 260 on September 28, 2025, and lost the fight by unanimous decision.
Driving Style and Strengths
Lookboonmee fights out of a Muay Thai stance, reflecting the striking base she developed from childhood. Her style blends sharp kickboxing with an evolving submission game, and she is equally comfortable winning on the scorecards or hunting for a rear-naked choke. Training at Bangtao Muay Thai and MMA has allowed her to keep developing both sides of her skill set under experienced coaches.
Notable Events and Milestones
Becoming the first Thai fighter ever signed by the UFC stands as her most significant career milestone. Her rear-naked choke win over Elise Reed at UFC 284 is one of the defining finishes of her career, and her run of decision wins over the likes of Aleksandra Albu, Jinh Yu Frey, Sam Hughes, and Bruna Brasil demonstrates consistent durability at the highest level of the sport.
