Scott Thomas Blewett (born April 10, 1996) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins, Baltimore Orioles, and Atlanta Braves, and in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) for the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions. A right-handed pitcher, Blewett has spent more than a decade moving between the minor leagues, the majors, and international baseball since being drafted out of high school in 2014.
Early Life and Background
Scott Thomas Blewett was born on April 10, 1996, in Baldwinsville, New York, a small town near Syracuse. He grew up in the same community where he would later be remembered as one of the most talented young athletes in recent memory. He attended Charles W. Baker High School in Baldwinsville, where he developed into one of the top pitching prospects in the Northeast.
As a senior at Baker, Blewett earned statewide recognition for his performance on the mound. He was named the Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year for New York, an award that highlights the best high school player in each state. He also committed to play college baseball at St. John’s University, giving him a path to professional baseball even before the MLB draft took place.
Path to Professional Baseball
Rather than honor his commitment to St. John’s, Blewett entered the 2014 Major League Baseball draft and was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the second round. He signed with Kansas City for $1.8 million, a strong bonus for a prep pitcher, signaling the Royals’ belief in his upside. That decision launched his professional career and moved him directly into the Royals’ minor league system.

After signing, Blewett made his professional debut with the Burlington Royals of the Appalachian League in 2014. He went 1–2 with a 4.82 ERA in eight games and seven starts, getting his first taste of professional hitters. He spent 2015 and 2016 with the Lexington Legends, posting a 3–5 record with a 5.20 ERA in 2015 before improving to an 8–11 record with a 4.31 ERA in 25 starts the following year.
Blewett advanced to the Wilmington Blue Rocks in 2017, where he set a career high with 152 2/3 innings pitched across 27 starts and posted a 4.07 ERA. The next season, 2018, he moved up to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals and went 8–6 with a 4.79 ERA in 26 games. After that campaign, the Royals added him to their 40-man roster, protecting him from the Rule 5 draft and signaling that his MLB debut was approaching.
Kansas City Royals (2019–2021)
Blewett began 2019 with the Omaha Storm Chasers and also spent time with the Naturals, struggling to a 6–11 record and a 7.34 ERA over 23 games and 21 starts. Despite the rough minor league season, he earned his first taste of the major leagues in 2020. The Royals promoted him on August 5, 2020, but optioned him back the next day without an appearance. He was recalled again on August 15 and sent down the following day, before being recalled a third time and finally making his MLB debut on September 18, 2020, against the Milwaukee Brewers, pitching two scoreless innings.
Blewett’s time in Kansas City was brief. On April 1, 2021, the Royals designated him for assignment, and he was outrighted to the alternate training site on April 6. He was selected back to the roster in September and pitched five innings, giving up just one run. On October 29, 2021, Blewett elected free agency, ending his time with the organization that drafted him.

The strong showing in the Southern League led to an opportunity overseas.
Uni-President Lions (2023)
On August 12, 2023, Blewett signed with the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. In seven starts for the Lions, he logged a 3–3 record with a 3.95 ERA and 40 strikeouts across 41 innings. The stint in Taiwan gave him valuable innings and international experience. He became a free agent after the season.
Minnesota Twins (2024–2025)
Blewett signed a minor league contract with the Minnesota Twins on January 24, 2024. After a strong showing for the Triple-A St. Paul Saints, in which he posted a 3.66 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 51 2/3 innings, the Twins selected his contract on August 9. He made one scoreless appearance against his former club, the Royals, before being designated for assignment on August 13. He cleared waivers and rejected an outright assignment in favor of free agency, only to re-sign with Minnesota the next day. After being added back to the active roster on August 23, he compiled a 1.77 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings across 12 appearances. He elected free agency again in early November 2024, then re-signed on a minor league deal on November 18, 2024. 2025 Season Performance
The 2025 season was the most eventful of Blewett’s career, as he was passed between four different organizations in less than five months. He began the year with the Minnesota Twins, was designated for assignment after one brief stint, and was claimed by the Baltimore Orioles, who also moved him on after two scoreless outings. Traded to the Atlanta Braves for cash, he enjoyed his most sustained major league success of the year, going 2–0 before a roster move sent him back to Baltimore. He was then placed on the injured list with right elbow discomfort, missing significant time before electing free agency in late September.
After his free agency, Blewett landed with the St. Louis Cardinals organization on a minor league deal, giving him a fresh opportunity heading into 2025. Across his major league appearances in 2025 with the Twins, Orioles, and Braves, he continued to provide versatile relief depth, while his time on the injured list marked one of the more difficult stretches of his career. Heading into 2025, Blewett will look to earn a more stable role in the Cardinals’ system and, ideally, return to a major league mound on a more permanent basis.
