Shea Theodore is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman for the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League. Shea Theodore was born on August 3, 1995, in Aldergrove, British Columbia, to millwright Cam Theodore and bankworker Corrine Theodore. He grew up in the Fraser Valley and opted out of the Burnaby Winter Club program in favor of staying within his local hockey community. Theodore has an older sister, Alyssa, who also plays ice hockey in both women’s and men’s leagues while attending the University of the Fraser Valley.
Theodore played minor hockey with the Aldergrove Minor Hockey Association during the 2009-10 season. By the time he graduated from minor hockey, he had established himself as the most outstanding player in the franchise’s history. Theodore credited his development to coaches Steve Howerton, Dan Armstrong, Kris Armstrong, Steve Potomak, and trainer Tim Preston, who worked with him for ten years.
Path to Hockey
On April 29, 2010, Theodore was selected in the third round of the WHL Bantam Draft by the Seattle Thunderbirds. At the time of his selection, he measured 5 feet 10 inches and 142 pounds. He played four games with the Thunderbirds but spent most of the 2010-11 season with the Fraser Valley Bruins in the British Columbia midget major league. Major Junior Career
Theodore led all WHL defencemen in scoring during the 2013-14 season and earned a selection to the Western Conference First All-Star Team. He was assigned to the Norfolk Admirals on April 10, 2014, but recorded no points in four AHL games before being returned to junior hockey.
In his final WHL season, Theodore served as captain of the Seattle Thunderbirds and was awarded the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy as the WHL defenceman of the year. He posted 13 goals and 35 assists in 43 games before rejoining the Norfolk Admirals in April 2015.
