Tom Wilson Bio
Thomas Wilson (born March 29, 1994) is a Canadian professional ice hockey right winger and alternate captain for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Capitals selected him in the first round, 16th overall, of the 2012 NHL entry draft, and he has spent his entire NHL career with the organization.
Standing 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) and weighing 218 pounds (99 kg), Wilson has built a reputation as one of the league’s most physical power forwards while steadily developing into a reliable point producer. Early Life and Background
Wilson was born on March 29, 1994, in Toronto, Ontario, the largest city in Canada. He began playing ice hockey at the age of two, when his father built an ice rink in their backyard for Tom and his older brother Peter. Wilson grew up alongside the sons of National Hockey League players such as Tom Fitzgerald, Shayne Corson, and Steve Thomas, all of whom lived in Toronto.
Both of his parents were minor hockey coaches at North Toronto Memorial Arena. His father Keven coached competitive representative teams, while his mother Neville coached the more recreational house league. When he started minor hockey, Wilson played as a defenceman for one year before switching to forward so he could be more involved in offensive plays.
After three seasons of AA minor hockey with North Toronto, Wilson joined the Toronto Jr. Canadiens of the Greater Toronto Hockey League. He scored 44 goals and 105 points in his final minor season and also split time with the Bedford Bisons and his school team at Greenwood College School.

The Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League selected Wilson in the second round, 27th overall, of the 2010 OHL Priority Selection. The team was attracted to his size and physical approach. Drafted at 16, he continued his education at Plymouth High School in Michigan while developing with the Whalers.
Wilson took a physical, energetic approach from his first junior game. His 2010-11 rookie season was limited to 28 games after a wrist injury in an international exhibition game, but he returned to score three goals and three assists with 71 penalty minutes. Injuries also shortened parts of his 2011-12 season, although his 13-game playoff performance, with seven goals and six assists, established him as a strong forward.
Ranked the 15th-best North American skater by NHL Central Scouting, Wilson was selected 16th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2012 NHL Draft. Wilson made the Capitals’ opening-night roster in 2013-14 as a fourth-line enforcer. He played all 82 games that season, recording 10 points and 151 penalty minutes while participating in 14 fights. Wilson is married to professional beach volleyball player Taylor Pischke.
