Chris Hemsworth is preparing for his return as Thor in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, but this time, his training journey looks very different. Focusing on the Chris Hemsworth Avengers Doomsday training transformation, longtime personal trainer Luke Zocchi provided insight into the updated fitness strategy shaping Hemsworth’s portrayal of the God of Thunder.
The Independent spoke with Zocchi, who opened up about how Hemsworth’s preparation for Avengers: Doomsday has been a significant departure from earlier Thor films. According to Zocchi, they intentionally eased back on the demands of their workouts.
“We haven’t pushed anywhere near as hard on this film. Chris still looks great.”
—Luke Zocchi, Trainer.
Highlighting the realities of aging and shifting priorities, Zocchi explained,
“I hate to say it, but I think we’re just getting a little bit older. We’re not killing ourselves as much and always thinking more is better. Instead, we’re being a bit more in-tune with our bodies.”
—Luke Zocchi, Trainer.
This recalibrated approach is expected to deliver a noticeably leaner Thor than before. Unlike the musclebound version seen in Thor: Love and Thunder, Hemsworth is embracing a less extreme look, which aligns with his personal comfort and well-being.
Adjustments to Hemsworth’s Diet and Appearance
Discussing changes in Hemsworth’s physical preparation, Zocchi emphasized the new dietary routine and its implications for the character’s visual presentation.
“It will be interesting to see how different he looks in the film,”
Zocchi remarked, reflecting on the transition away from the intensive regimen that previously had Hemsworth consuming as many as ten high-calorie meals a day. Zocchi continued,
“I don’t think he’s as big as he was in Love and Thunder, and that wasn’t the goal either. Chris felt uncomfortable with how big he was on that one and he wasn’t enjoying how much food he had to eat.”
—Luke Zocchi, Trainer.
The shift in strategy means Hemsworth’s diet now includes only four or five meals per day. Zocchi explained,

“For this one, he’s eating four or five meals [per day], but his diet is nowhere near as strict. We’re not ramming the food down his throat, but he still looks great,”
—Luke Zocchi, Trainer. One notable change for fans: Thor’s new costume has been designed without sleeves, drawing attention to the hero’s toned, but less bulky, arms.
Other Marvel News: Ironheart, Doctor Doom, and Thunderbolts Updates
While attention remains high on Hemsworth’s transformation, other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) developments are gathering momentum. Anthony Ramos, who plays the antagonist Hood in Ironheart, expressed excitement about future possibilities for his character. He shared hopes for overlapping storylines with Doctor Doom, alluding to the return of Robert Downey Jr. in this iconic villainous role.
“I would love to expand with his character, knowing that Robert Downey Jr.’s coming back as Doctor Doom, and we know in the comics that those characters kind of overlap and stuff like that,”
—Anthony Ramos, Actor. He added,
“So seeing if there’s any possibility for any overlap with Doctor Doom would be really cool.”
—Anthony Ramos, Actor.
