Demi Moore only has love for her ex-husband Bruce Willis. In an interview with Variety published on February 6, the 62-year-old actress spoke about her relationship with the 69-year-old Willis, whom she divorced in 2000 after 13 years of marriage. Moore discussed her feelings as she celebrated her Academy Award nomination for The Substance, highlighting the bond she maintains with Willis despite their past separation.
Willis, who married Emma Heming Willis in 2009, has faced significant health challenges since being diagnosed with aphasia in 2022 and later frontotemporal dementia in 2023. “We will always be a family, just in a different form,” Moore expressed, emphasizing the importance of their continued connection for the sake of their daughters: Rumer, 36, Scout, 33, and Tallulah, 31. She acknowledged that Willis also shares daughters Mabel, 12, and Evelyn, 10, with Emma.
“For me, there was never a question. I show up because that’s what you do for the people you love,” added Moore, illustrating her commitment to be a source of support for both Willis and his current family. Variety reported that Moore visits Willis weekly and actively supports Emma in her role as a caregiver. She hopes that others might find encouragement in their amicable relationship, stating, “There is life after divorce. There is a way to co-parent with love.”
Moore’s sentiments resonated with comments she made during a December 5 interview with Christiane Amanpour for CNN. “That has been very important to me since Bruce and I separated and divorced, the recognition that we’re a family, and we’ll always be a family, just in a different form,” she said. Moore elaborated on how their familial structure has evolved and emphasized that it is possible to maintain positive relationships post-divorce.
In discussing Willis’ health, Moore told CNN, “Given the givens, he’s in a very stable place at the moment.” Recently, Willis was seen spending time in public for the first time since his dementia diagnosis in a video shared by Emma on January 16. Moore reiterated the importance of approaching those dealing with health issues with compassion, saying, “It’s so important for anybody who’s dealing with this to really meet them where they’re at.” She believes this perspective fosters love and joy in challenging circumstances.
Looking forward, Moore’s next opportunity to shine for her performance in The Substance will be at the Critics Choice Awards, where she has been nominated for best actress. This ceremony, which has captured the excitement of many, will air on January 7.
