Veteran actor and filmmaker Anupam Kher has addressed comparisons between his latest directorial project, Tanvi The Great, and Aamir Khan’s celebrated film Sitaare Zameen Par. While promoting his return to direction, Kher emphasized that Tanvi The Great is not a remake but a fresh, standalone film with a distinct narrative. His comments seek to clear any misconceptions among audiences eagerly anticipating the new release.
The Distinctive Nature of Tanvi The Great Compared to Aamir Khan’s Film
When asked about whether viewers would enjoy Tanvi The Great as much as Sitaare Zameen Par, Anupam Kher expressed confidence in his film’s appeal. He said,
“I’m sure it will be, it’s a great starter for our film. I genuinely feel that, because you want to believe there’s a section of people, a large section, who are open to this film and this kind of subject. Otherwise, it will hopefully help us. But when the audience goes to see a film, they see it as an individual film. They don’t think beyond that, it’s a pure, pure fresh concept. Sitaare is a beautiful film, and it’s done very well.”

Kher further described the fundamental differences, highlighting how Tanvi The Great belongs to a separate genre with a broader canvas and more realistic characters. He explained,
“But at the end of the day, it’s a Spanish film, and they’ve adapted it very beautifully. But, and I’m not saying this with any sense of superiority- Tanvi is a completely different genre of film, where the canvas is huge, and the people are real. I think to achieve that, especially with such good sub-actors, is remarkable. The roles played by each actor are different, even though you have seen this before. The characters in the film are very believable, even though the actors are the same people who’ve been working for the last 35 to 40 years.”

What This Means for Audiences and the Film Industry
Kher’s remarks make it clear that Tanvi The Great aims to engage viewers with its own unique story and approach, separate from the emotional journey presented in Aamir Khan Sitaare Zameen Par. By positioning the film as a fresh concept, Kher hopes to attract a dedicated audience segment interested in innovative storytelling. Given the veteran’s long-standing contribution to Bollywood, this project reflects his passion for exploring new cinematic expressions beyond his established acting career.
