Simon Pegg, the actor known for his role in Hot Fuzz, has spoken candidly about his ongoing struggles behind the wheel, connecting several driving accidents to what he suspects is undiagnosed ADHD. These difficulties have recently led to multiple incidents, impacting his confidence while driving and raising deeper concerns about his focus and attention on the road.
Past Driving Penalties and Recent Accident Revealed
Pegg, who has appeared alongside Tom Cruise in the Mission: Impossible films, has a history of speeding offenses. He received a six-month driving ban in 2021 after being caught speeding in a luxury Mercedes, adding to thirteen penalty points from four previous speeding violations. His most recent accident was particularly unsettling, occurring while his children were in the car.
Sharing his experience on the Wrong Turns podcast, Pegg described the accident in Greece:
“I did it the other day in Greece. I was backing out of the driveway where we were staying. I had like five people in the car, everyone was talking.”
He admitted a moment of distracted judgment:
“I didn’t look. I was checking the sides of the car to make sure I was clear of the driveway. I didn’t look at the rear-view camera thing and I hit a post.”
The actor immediately noticed his wife’s reaction, feeling the weight of her disappointment.
Recognizing Symptoms and Seeking Professional Help
Following the accident, Pegg’s daughter observed his distress and encouraged him to consider that change might be necessary. Motivated to understand his experience, Pegg researched ADHD and discovered a link between the condition and increased risks of car crashes. He explained,
“It’s because of a lack of focus and ability to kind of totally focus,”
and added,
“I need to speak to a psychiatrist and find out for sure if I have this thing.”
Mixed Experiences with Law Enforcement During Traffic Offenses
Despite being banned from driving three times, Pegg admitted the bans could have been imposed more frequently. He acknowledged that some police officers, who were fans of Hot Fuzz—a film that portrayed police in an amusing and endearing manner—sometimes excused his speeding violations. This leniency, however, did not prevent further incidents, emphasizing ongoing challenges with road safety.

Current Film Project on Hold Amid Financial Difficulties
In a separate update, Pegg’s newest film, Angels in the Asylum, has paused production after the filming company ran out of funding. The movie, also starring Minnie Driver, was to explore the story of women confined in a Surrey asylum during the 1930s because they carried typhoid disease. The setback leaves the project’s future uncertain amid ongoing financial concerns for the production.
The Impact of Addressing ADHD on Driving Safety and Future Steps
Simon Pegg’s openness about his possible ADHD diagnosis sheds light on the challenges adults can face managing focus-related disorders, particularly in activities requiring constant attention like driving. Seeking professional evaluation and treatment may help reduce the risk of further accidents. For Pegg, this moment marks a critical step toward understanding his condition and prioritizing safety for himself and his family.
