Apple TV+ is developing a limited series based on the popular 2006 romantic comedy The Holiday, starring Kate Winslet, Variety announced on August 1. The original film, written and directed by Nancy Meyers, is well-known for its heartwarming story about two women exchanging homes during the Christmas season and unexpectedly finding love.
The upcoming series will revisit a similar premise involving a British and American woman swapping homes over the holidays. However, it will introduce new characters rather than continuing the original film’s storyline with its iconic leads.
Krissie Ducker and Rob Delaney to Lead Writing Efforts
Krissie Ducker will write and executive produce the series, bringing her experience from acclaimed shows such as Killing Eve, Sweetpea, and The Assassin. Rob Delaney, known for co-creating and starring in Catastrophe, will also contribute to the script. Ducker previously worked as a writer’s assistant on Catastrophe, creating a collaborative team for the project.
Left Bank Pictures is attached as the production company. Notably, Nancy Meyers, who was the driving creative force behind the original movie, is not participating in this new adaptation.
Casting in Progress Ahead of Series Approval
The search for the leads in the limited series is ongoing. Apple TV+ plans to approve the full production once an appropriate cast is selected, signaling the network’s commitment to reviving this cherished holiday narrative for a new audience.

Remembering the Impact of the Original The Holiday Film
The 2006 movie featured Kate Winslet as Iris, a London-based journalist, and Cameron Diaz as Amanda, a busy movie trailer producer from Los Angeles. The characters swap homes for the Christmas season, leading to romantic connections—Winslet’s character with Jack Black’s Miles, and Diaz’s Amanda with Jude Law’s Graham, Iris’ widowed brother.
The Holiday earned widespread acclaim and performed strongly at the box office, with worldwide earnings exceeding $200 million, confirming its status as a classic festive film.
Jude Law Shares Behind-the-Scenes Insight on Iconic Cottage
In a November 24, 2024 interview with BBC Radio, Jude Law offered fans a surprising revelation about the English countryside cottage from The Holiday. While some questioned the possibility of renting the charming home, Law clarified,
You think we could Airbnb that cottage?
responding, That cottage doesn’t exist, much to the hosts’ surprise.
He explained the cottage was a fabrication created because director Nancy Meyers, known as a perfectionist, couldn’t find a suitable existing location.
So the director, she’s a bit of a perfectionist,
Law said.
She toured that whole area and didn’t quite find the chocolate box cottage she’s looking for,
continuing,
So she just [rented] a field, and drew it and had someone build it.
This anecdote highlights the dedication to detail that contributed to the movie’s enduring charm and why it continues to resonate with audiences today.
