Mandy Moore Opens Up About Her Three Children and How Motherhood Shaped Her TV Role and Family Life

Mandy Moore and her husband, musician Taylor Goldsmith, are the proud parents of three children, a fact that has deeply influenced both her personal life and her television work. Their family expanded over several years, with the arrival of two sons followed by a daughter, shaping Moore’s perspective on motherhood and her role as a TV mom.

Goldsmith, lead singer of the band Dawes, began dating Moore in 2015, and the couple married in an intimate backyard ceremony on November 18, 2018. Their first son, August “Gus” Harrison, was born in February 2021, followed by their second son, Oscar “Ozzie” Bennett, in October 2022. The family grew once again with the birth of their daughter, Louise “Lou” Everett, in September 2024.

Introducing August “Gus” Harrison Goldsmith

August “Gus” Harrison Goldsmith, the couple’s first child, arrived on February 20, 2021. His name holds significance, reflecting the month when Mandy and Taylor discovered they were expecting, which also happens to be Goldsmith’s birth month. Early glimpses into Gus’s personality reveal a young boy with a distinct attitude, as Moore shared humorous moments about his first birthday.

Reflecting on that milestone during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in February 2022, Moore said,

“I was so excited to get him in front of a cake and [have] the quintessential first birthday, smashing the cake everywhere,”

“[Gus] couldn’t have cared less about the cake. Not a sugar guy, clearly.”

As Gus grows, he shows signs of following in the artistic footsteps of his parents. In July 2024, both he and Ozzie joined Taylor Goldsmith’s band, Dawes, onstage at Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre, with Gus playing the drums and singing.

Moore has expressed deep gratitude for her firstborn, acknowledging the challenges she faced in becoming a mother. In a 2024 Instagram post, she shared,

“I remember when the doctor told me there was a slim chance of getting pregnant… and then lo and behold to our surprise, I became pregnant with Gus,”

describing motherhood as a beautiful, messy, sleepless gift.

Welcoming Oscar “Ozzie” Bennett Goldsmith

Oscar “Ozzie” Bennett Goldsmith joined the family in October 2022, expanding the household with new joys and responsibilities. During her pregnancy with Ozzie, Moore was actively touring for her seventh studio album, In Real Life, but ultimately made the decision to cancel the tour to prioritize her health and the well-being of her baby.

Moore explained the difficulty of balancing travel and pregnancy in an Instagram statement, stating,

“[A]lthough I truly thought I could power through, the way we are traveling (long hours on the bus and not getting proper rest) has caught up, taken its toll, and made it feel too challenging to proceed.”

She added,

“I know that I have to put my family and my health (and the health of my baby) first and the best place for me to be right now is at home.”

Her experience with pregnancy was made more complicated by an autoimmune condition, immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), which affected her platelet count and prevented her from receiving an epidural during childbirth. Moore described delivering her first son without epidural pain relief as awful but resiliently affirmed,

“But I can do it one more time. I can climb that mountain again.”

One month after Ozzie’s birth, she reflected on the memorable moment in an Instagram post:

“Baby boy came into this world to the soundtrack of Willie Nelson’s ‘Stardust’. Good choice, sir!”

In October 2024, celebrating Ozzie’s second birthday, Moore wrote warmly about her second son,

“2 years with this fiercely happy, hungry, sensitive, hilarious garbage truck loving boy. Ozzie, the way you move through the world with such heart, curiosity and fearlessness makes us marvel. You may be the middle but you’ll always be my baby boy.”

The Arrival of Louise “Lou” Everett Goldsmith and Its Impact

The couple welcomed their first daughter, Louise “Lou” Everett Goldsmith, in September 2024. Moore shared a heartfelt message on Instagram acknowledging the bond between her children, saying,

“Her big brothers are already as obsessed with her as we are,”

and expressing gratitude for their family dynamic,

“Endlessly grateful for our family of 5 (and our very own big three) and soaking in every moment of this special time. 💓💓💓”

Just months after Lou’s birth, the family faced a devastating challenge when their home in Los Angeles was heavily affected by the Eaton Fire, a wildfire that destroyed thousands of properties and caused significant losses. On Instagram in February 2025, Moore posted an update showing the near-total destruction of their home’s interior and contents. She wrote,

“Clothes, furniture, pretty much everything will have to be disposed of…maybe even the walls too. We won’t be there for a very long time as it and the neighborhood itself get sorted out and cleaned and the rebuilding starts.”

Despite the adversity, the Goldsmith family found support within their community. Moore publicly thanked her mother-in-law, Kathy Goldsmith, who also lost her home in the fire, for offering help and shelter. In July 2025, Moore reflected on this support, saying,

“I’m heartbroken that our 5 min walk to [Kathy’s] house is no longer on the table BUT so grateful that we’ve been able to live under the same roof these last 6 months,”

and added,

“if there’s any silver lining in this whole thing, she’s definitely ours.”

Family Moments and Future Outlook

The Goldsmith household continues to cherish family time despite recent setbacks. On July 31, 2025, Mandy Moore shared joyful photos from a family vacation with Taylor and their three children at the Four Seasons Punta Mita in Mexico. She captioned the post with enthusiasm:

“We can’t wait to come back,”

as images showed beautiful sunsets, delicious meals, and the children playing happily by the water.

Mandy Moore’s journey as a mother of three has not only transformed her private life but also influenced her professional outlook. Reflecting on her experience returning to her role in This Is Us after becoming a mom, Moore explained during a June 2024 appearance on The View that motherhood gave her new insights:

“Chris [Sullivan] and I both weren’t parents yet [while filming], and so to have played a mother, and sort of watching the show back episode by episode now, I’m like, ‘Wow, there’s some things I would have done a little bit differently’—having the life experience now under my belt.”

The presence of her three children has evidently deepened Moore’s understanding of parenting, influencing her reflection on both life and art. As she and Taylor continue raising their sons and daughter, their family remains connected through music, love, and resilience amid challenges.
