EXCLUSIVE: Oscar winner Natalie Portman is set to star in the romantic comedy ‘Good Sex,’ written and directed by Golden Globe winner Lena Dunham, known for her work on ‘Girls.’ CAA Media Finance is representing the domestic rights while Film Nation Entertainment will handle international rights and introduce this exciting project at next week’s European Film Market (EFM).
‘Good Sex’ explores the complexities of modern dating, particularly in the wake of age-gap romances that have gained popularity following projects like ‘Babygirl’ and ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy.’ In this film, audiences will see Portman, as the successful couples’ therapist Ally, navigating the New York dating scene after a decade-long relationship ends.
The synopsis reveals that as Ally turns 40, her best friend pushes her back into the challenging landscape of dating. In this complicated journey, she finds herself juggling a steamy affair with a 20-something Brooklyn hipster while beginning a more conventional relationship with Alan, a successful man in his 50s living in Manhattan. As these romantic entanglements unfold, Ally faces an identity crisis, trying to balance her desires and keep both men separate.
Portman will also serve as a producer for ‘Good Sex’ through her company MountainA, alongside Dunham and Michael Cohen under their Good Thing Going banner. The actress has expressed her admiration for Dunham as a filmmaker, citing inspiration from the film ‘Tiny Furniture.’ Known for her acclaimed performances in ‘Black Swan’ and ‘May December,’ Portman is also attached to upcoming projects such as Guy Ritchie’s ‘Fountain Of Youth’ and Cathy Yan’s ‘The Gallery.’
Dunham, creator of ‘Girls,’ is currently in post-production on a Netflix mini-series titled ‘Too Much,’ which features Will Sharpe and Megan Stalter. Portman is represented by CAA and attorney George Sheanshang, while MountainA is represented by CAA and Frankfurt Kurnit. Dunham and Good Thing Going are represented by CAA and Hansen, Jacobson.
