Billy Bob Thornton has publicly denied reports claiming he is exiting the Paramount+ series Landman, firmly addressing the circulating rumors. The 70-year-old actor, known for his role as Tommy Norris, reassured fans that he has no plans to leave the show anytime soon.
Landman, created by Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan, features Thornton as a central figure. Speculation about his departure arose after his character Tommy was removed as president of M-Tex by Cami, played by Demi Moore, during the season two finale.
Clarifying False Claims Amidst Complex Storylines
Despite the dramatic turn in Tommy’s career within the show, Thornton confirmed in an interview with USA Today that any suggestion of him quitting the series is unfounded. He dismissed the reports as “AI generated c**p,” explicitly refuting claims that he and Moore’s character are a couple and that he is leaving the production.
Since Landman premiered in November 2024, Thornton’s portrayal of Tommy Norris has earned attention, both for gripping narratives and notably for a controversial full-frontal nudity scene. Two seasons have aired to critical praise, and the show was renewed for a third season in December 2025.
Commitment to the Series and Upcoming Season
While no official release date has been announced for season three, Thornton confirmed his ongoing involvement with the show. He expressed enthusiasm about working with fellow actor Sam Elliot, who plays his character’s father on screen.
“It’s been great working with Sam Elliot. And I love doing the show,”
Thornton said, adding,
“I’ll be here as long as it plays out. If it’s five years, great. If it’s six, I’m there.”
The next season will focus on Tommy establishing his own company, CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle, alongside characters T.L. (Elliott), Cooper (Jacob Lofland), Nathan (Colm Feore), Rebecca (Kayla Wallace), and Dale (James Jordan). Ali Larter, portraying Tommy’s no-nonsense ex-wife Angela, will also return.
“So excited to announce we are coming back for season 3!”
Larter shared via Instagram.
“Thank you to the fans that have made Landman such a massive success.”
“Honored to work on this show with such exceptional actors and crew. Heart is full.”
Looking Ahead: What Fans Can Expect
Thornton’s firm denial of his departure ensures stability for Landman’s enthusiastic fanbase, who can anticipate further development of the complex characters and story arcs. With a third season confirmed and a strong ensemble cast returning, the series is poised to continue its successful run and deepen Tommy Norris’s evolving journey in the oil and cattle business.
