Billy Bob Thornton’s character, Tommy, appeared in a full-frontal scene on Taylor Sheridan’s series Landman, leading many to question whether the actor genuinely appeared nude or if prosthetics were used. Co-creator Christian Wallace clarified on January 19 that Thornton, 70, did not perform actual full nudity for the scene, confirming the use of a prosthetic device to maintain the actor’s modesty during filming.
On-Set Decisions Regarding the Prosthetic Use
Wallace shared insight into the production’s choices, explaining that an initial prosthetic brought on set was humorously oversized, which led the team to reject it. Instead, they settled on a significantly smaller and more believable prosthetic for the scene to achieve realism without exposing the actor.
“We had an on-set intimacy coordinator, and the original prosthetic she brought in made everyone laugh. We were like, ‘No.’” – Christian Wallace, Co-creator
He also expressed surprise about the public’s misconception that Thornton had performed full-frontal nudity in reality, highlighting the care taken by the intimacy coordinator and props team in creating a convincing effect.
“It is surprising to me that people think that was actually Billy doing full-frontal nudity,”
“So I should say props to our intimacy coordinator for making it extremely realistic, and to the props team. They had a whole rig, as Billy called it: ‘Got my rig on.’” – Christian Wallace, Co-creator
Details of the Memorable Scene on Landman
The provocative moment occurred in a December 2025 episode of Landman on Paramount+. Tommy accidentally flashed a hotel employee after waking up in bed, sparking a scream from the startled woman. She pleaded with him not to assault her, prompting Angela, played by Ali Larter, to rush into the room from the bathroom.

Angela’s quick reaction included an attempt to reassure the employee and calm the situation.
“Don’t be scared, darling. That wasn’t about you. He eats [prescription medication used to treat erectile dysfunction] Cialis like M&Ms and runs into door jams all morning with that thing. I’m so sorry about that.” – Angela, played by Ali Larter
The exchange between Angela and Tommy that followed was both humorous and tense as she scolded him for the public display.
“I was trying to surprise you with breakfast in bed. … That is not the best angle of your ball sack, I might add. You really have to love a man to look at him from there. Poor thing. If she wasn’t a lesbian when she walked in here, she’s a f***ing lesbian now,”
“I’m getting dressed. My husband flashes the waitstaff and that kind of kills the mood.” – Angela, played by Ali Larter
Meanwhile, Tommy blamed Angela for giving him an extra pill the night before, amplifying the unintended consequences of his actions.
“Now, what do I do with this f***ing thing?”
“I might f*** the whole breakfast. The waffles, the fruit, the goddamn bagel and the omelette. The omelette is the first thing that’s getting f***ed. You better order another one because that one is f***ed.” – Tommy, played by Billy Bob Thornton
Season 2 Developments and Future for Thornton’s Role
The second season of Landman concluded on January 18 with major plot twists, including the addition of Demi Moore as Cami. Alongside Ali Larter’s Angela, Jacob Lofland’s Cooper, and Michelle Randolph’s Ainsley, the narrative expanded, heightening drama throughout the series.
Before the announcement of a third season, Thornton disclosed he had committed to four or five seasons of Landman and intended to stay on the show “as long as I’m able” or until the story naturally concluded.
The series continues to stream exclusively on Paramount+, maintaining its growing fan base and drawing attention for its bold storytelling choices and casting.
