Actress and activist Jameela Jamil has ignited controversy after private text messages between her and others were revealed in court documents tied to Blake Lively’s ongoing legal battle. The documents, part of Lively’s sexual harassment lawsuit against director Justin Baldoni, show Jamil referring to Lively as a “suicide bomber” and a “villain.” This development comes as Lively’s trial, scheduled for May 2026, brings heightened attention to the Blake Lively legal controversy.
Text Exchanges Show Jamil and Publicist Criticizing Lively’s Film Promotion
In a series of messages from August 2024 revealed by court filings, Jamil and Jennifer Abel, who is the publicist for director Justin Baldoni, discussed Blake Lively’s promotion of her film It Ends With Us. Some fans deemed the film’s marketing tone-deaf because of its serious subject—domestic violence. Abel’s message expressed strong frustration:
I want to officially incorporate nightmare c**t and demon c**t into my vocabulary; UNBELIEVABLE; She’s doing this to herself.
Jamil then responded sharply,
She’s a suicide bomber at this point.
The conversation later turned to Lively’s effort to share domestic violence resources, including a hotline and abuse statistics, which Jamil described as cold and villainous. Abel agreed, describing the gesture as “so sick.” Jamil added,
So cold; Just some stats and a link.

Additionally, the texts uncovered critiques of Baldoni’s behavior on set, which some sources characterized as “chauvinistic” and “borderline abusive.” Jamil remarked,
At least borderline abusive is out there so she can’t go in with predator.
Public Response and Discussion on Feminism Following Message Leak
Following the release of these texts, Jamil confronted the backlash on Instagram, highlighting that feminism does not require women to agree or be friends. She stated,
Just gender equity. It does not mean you have to like every single woman. It doesn’t mean you have to be friends with every single woman.
She added,
So if you are fighting for women’s rights but you don’t get along with every single woman, it doesn’t make you a bad feminist. You’re still a feminist. Keep fighting for those rights and thank you for fighting for those rights.
A source close to the situation pointed out the broader cultural issue at play, where women are often set against one another, saying,
It’s disappointing that instead of listening to women when they speak out, other women call them names and discredit them in defense of a fake male feminist.
The Ongoing Legal Battle Between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni
The dispute began in December 2024 when Blake Lively filed a sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit against Justin Baldoni related to their work on It Ends With Us. Lively’s allegations include body-shaming and a deliberate campaign aimed at harming her reputation. The case also names Baldoni’s production company, Wayfarer Studios, and several public relations personnel as parties involved.
Baldoni responded with legal action, initially seeking $250 million in damages from The New York Times over an allegedly defamatory article. He later expanded this to a $400 million countersuit, which a judge dismissed in June 2025. The primary lawsuit filed by Lively remains active, with witnesses, including notable names such as Taylor Swift and Ryan Reynolds, expected to appear during the trial set for May 2026.
