Jason Momoa Debuts as Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

James Gunn recently revealed footage showcasing Jason Momoa in character as the antihero Lobo for the film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The clip, shared on Instagram last Friday, shows Momoa stepping out of his trailer wearing fangs, saying “Finally” before heading to the set. Shortly after, viewers get an official glimpse of Momoa’s portrayal of Lobo in the upcoming DC Universe production featuring the titular heroine.

Details on the Supergirl Film and Its Place in the DC Universe

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow stars Milly Alcock, known from House of the Dragon, as Kara Zor-El. This film is the second installment in the rebooted DC Universe series overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran, following 2025’s Superman featuring David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Craig Gillespie directs the new movie, which also includes Matthias Schoenaerts as the antagonist Krem of the Yellow Hill and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle.

The screenplay, written by Ana Nogueira of The Vampire Diaries fame, is adapted from the DC comics written by Tom King with art by Bilquis Evely. This collaboration expands the storyline within Gunn and Safran’s vision for the revived DC Universe films.

Jason Momoa’s Connection to the Role of Lobo

Momoa’s casting as Lobo was announced in December 2024, with the actor confirming the role by recalling a 2023 Fandango interview. In that discussion, Momoa explained his long-standing admiration for the character, saying,

“I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,’”

he shared.

He added,

“I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a fuck yeah. I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.”

Release and Anticipation for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to premiere in theaters on June 26. The inclusion of Jason Momoa as Lobo adds significant interest, as the actor brings a dedicated fanbase and deep enthusiasm for the character. This film is expected to further define the direction of the DC Universe reboot and could set the tone for future narratives involving these iconic superheroes and villains.
