Jennifer Lawrence has revealed her wish to come back to Studio 8H and host Saturday Night Live again, 13 years after her first appearance. The actress is eager to revisit the show despite the challenges she faced during her initial hosting in 2013.
Reflecting on a Stressful First Experience
During an appearance on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, Lawrence reflected on her earlier stint hosting SNL, describing her memories as somewhat distorted due to the intense pressure she experienced. She cited health issues and a hectic schedule as major factors that affected her performance.
“I have to go back and do it again because I had walking pneumonia. I was under a lot of pressure and doing a lot, and I was shooting one of the Hunger Games movies,”
she explained via The Hollywood Reporter.
“I was shooting, I think the second one, while doing all of this campaign and I would have to like fly, go to a party, shake hands and then land and shook. Like, poor me! But I was very tired.”
Details of Her Initial SNL Hosting and Guest Appearances
Lawrence first hosted Saturday Night Live on January 19, 2013, during Season 38, with The Lumineers as the musical guest. This episode marked the show’s first of the year. She later returned to Studio 8H in November 2014 when Woody Harrelson, her Hunger Games co-star, served as host, with surprise appearances by Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. Despite these returns, Lawrence recalled feeling limited in what she could contribute to sketches during her original hosting.
“I remember I was also at that bad age. I don’t know if other people were like this at this age, but where you get asked, ‘Can you do any impressions or anything?’ And I was like, ‘No.’ I don’t want to be like, ‘And I can do this, and I can do that!’”
“I just kind of made everything like everybody else’s problem. I was like, ‘I don’t know how to do that. I can’t do that.’”
Anticipating a Potential Return Amid New Projects
Lawrence’s interest in hosting SNL once more signals her readiness to face the pressures she once found overwhelming. Although it remains unclear whether the show will invite her back, she appears well-prepared for another opportunity. Her busy schedule with upcoming projects, including a new appearance in a Hunger Games film, might offer a chance to host again, possibly around November as a tie-in with the movie’s release. This comeback could allow her to redefine her experience on the iconic sketch show and finally perform without the earlier burdens.
