Robert De Niro is set to reshape the UK‘s skyline with a 246-metre, 76-storey skyscraper in Manchester featuring a 160-room hotel, 452 private serviced residences, and a Nobu restaurant. This Robert De Niro skyscraper project aims to become the country‘s third tallest building once completed, surpassing all structures outside London.
The £350 million development is scheduled to begin construction this year, with a completion target before 2030. The towering project will overshadow Deansgate Square’s South Tower, currently the tallest building outside the capital.
De Niro himself expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating in November 2025,
“I look forward to coming back when it is finished, if not before,”
and adding,
“I think it is going to take six years and I plan to be around.”
Reflecting on Manchester, the actor remarked,
“I haven’t seen the city yet but I’d like to come back. Everyone is very nice, we’re having a very nice time. It’s great being here in Manchester because it has real character, we’re proud to be part of it.”
Nobu Manchester: The Brand’s UK Expansion
This skyscraper is Nobu’s first hotel and residential venture within the UK, with its restaurant marking the firm’s second British outlet after Nobu London. The broader project includes a supplementary 23-storey tower on Great Bridgewater Street, designed to provide 133 affordable housing residences.
Manchester City Council leader Bev Craig highlighted the project’s significance, commenting,
“It’s not everyday you watch Robert De Niro take out an apartment in Deansgate is it?”
She further praised the development as a
“symbol that international businesses are choosing Manchester.”
Craig stressed the importance of global names for the city’s ambition:
“It is a boost — we’ve said for a long time we wanted to be a world-class city and if you want to be a world-class city you’ve got to get global names.”
She added,
“The fact we are seeing global names — not just actors — but global businesses that only go to cities where they will be successful is a big boost for Manchester.”

Nobu’s empire began in 1994 as a Japanese–Peruvian restaurant founded by Robert De Niro, chef Nobu Matsuhisa, and businessman Meir Teper. The idea for this partnership emerged in the late 1980s when De Niro, a frequent patron of Matsuhisa’s Los Angeles restaurant, proposed launching a joint venture, which the chef initially declined before eventually agreeing.
Today, Nobu is a renowned luxury hospitality brand with more than 50 restaurants and 40 hotels worldwide. Its clientele includes A-list celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio, Oprah Winfrey, David and Victoria Beckham, Rihanna, and Kim Kardashian, underscoring its status as a celebrity hotspot.
