Actor Timothée Chalamet recently reflected on a difficult moment early in his career involving his role in the film Interstellar. Despite his later success and multiple Oscar nominations, including for his Timothée Chalamet Interstellar role, he revealed feeling like an outsider after many of his scenes were cut from the movie. The experience left a significant emotional impact on him during a special screening with the film’s director Christopher Nolan and fellow cast members.
Emotional Struggles During Interstellar Screening
Chalamet portrayed Tom, the teenage version of Joseph Cooper’s son, in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. While he cherished the opportunity to be part of such a landmark film alongside stars like Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Casey Affleck, and Matt Damon, he was distressed by the limited screen time he received. Speaking to Far Out Magazine, Chalamet described feeling deeply saddened upon realizing much of his work did not appear in the final cut of the film. He recounted telling Emma Stone that he “wept for an hour” after seeing the movie during the special screening.
Chalamet also admitted feeling out of place among the distinguished ensemble cast.
“I really had no career at this point,”
he said, admitting a sense of impostor syndrome.
“I was the fraud a little bit, in a room,”
he added, highlighting his unease despite sharing the screen with established Hollywood veterans.
