Jason Momoa Says His First Lobo Scene Proved He’s Perfect

Jason Momoa is stepping into the chaotic shoes of DC Comics’ notorious antihero Lobo with an enthusiasm that suggests he was made for the part. His debut as the rough-talking, cigar-smoking intergalactic mercenary comes in the upcoming film Supergirl, where he stars alongside Milly Alcock, who plays Kara Zor-El. Momoa’s excitement about taking on this role is evident, especially after filming his first scene.

Momoa’s Immediate Connection with Playing Lobo

In a candid moment on Project Big Screen, Momoa revealed how naturally the character suited him as soon as filming began.

“I’m super pumped. It felt just awesome [playing Lobo]. My first scene in [Supergirl] is like, ‘I’m f*cking born to do this.’ There’s a lot of great actors that can do stuff, but once I go on that press tour, [you’ll see] ‘My first shot was this. Could you do this?’”

he said, underlining the deep connection he feels to the part.

The Journey from Wishful Thinking to Reality

Momoa’s portrayal of Lobo has been long awaited by fans and the actor himself, who previously expressed his desire to play the role openly, even reaching out directly to DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn. The opportunity to bring Lobo to life allows Momoa to channel a wild and unpredictable personality, perfectly in line with his own energetic style.

Uncertain Future for Lobo in the DC Universe

Despite his enthusiasm, Momoa remains cautious about what lies ahead for Lobo beyond Supergirl. In an interview with Screen Rant, he tempered expectations by sharing,

“I only know Lobo’s in this one, and so we’ll see what the future of all that holds. I would love for his own thing to be coming out.”

This leaves Lobo’s trajectory within the DC Universe open-ended for now.

Upcoming Release and Audience Expectations

Supergirl is set to premiere in theaters on June 26, 2026, arriving nearly a year after Superman launched the new DC Universe on the big screen. The film promises to explore a theme that not all heroes need to be perfect, aligning well with the rough-edged character of Lobo. Given Momoa’s description of his first scene, viewers can expect his portrayal to be loud, messy, and perfectly fitting for the notorious “Main Man.”
