This past Tuesday was my last appearance on NXT & subsequently WWE. Thank you to all who have cheered, watched, and supported me through my journey. While my decision to not renew my contract was very difficult, it’s also new turning point in my life. It has been an honor & a privilege to be Ava.

Journey from WWE Performer to NXT Authority Figure
Simone Johnson, performing under the ring name Ava, began her WWE career in 2020 after signing and training at the Performance Center, aiming to carry on her family’s wrestling legacy. She initially competed as a wrestler in NXT, joining the Schism faction during her televised debut. After approximately a year of in-ring action, Ava pivoted to a non-wrestling role, becoming the General Manager of NXT.
In this leadership capacity, she managed match lineups, introduced championships, and supervised on-screen rivalries, becoming a central figure during a creative transition period for the brand. Her authority role provided stability and marked her as a prominent presence alongside other WWE executives.
Key Highlights and Impactful Moments During Ava’s Tenure
Though her wrestling tenure was brief, Ava developed a strong television persona through her General Manager position on NXT. She refined her microphone skills and guided pivotal storylines involving emerging stars. Her notable appearances included involvement in The Bloodline storyline and frequent segments with her father, Dwayne Johnson, as well as playful exchanges with WWE personality Stevie Turner, known for leading WWE’s Evolve brand.
Further cementing her legacy, Ava was featured as a selectable General Manager in the WWE 2K video game series’ MyGM mode, a distinctive achievement commemorating her influence on the show. Following her exit announcement, Ava expressed heartfelt gratitude to her fans and colleagues.
I loved being your mayor. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
