Alicia Silverstone, known for her role in Clueless, recently visited the Helen Woodward Animal Center to reconnect with a dog and her litter of puppies she helped save last December. This visit highlights Silverstone’s ongoing commitment to animal welfare and her involvement with the shelter.
Rescue Operation for a Pregnant Terrier Blend
The rescue effort began when Silverstone noticed a social media post about a pregnant terrier mix, later named Noel, who was scheduled for euthanasia at a San Bernadino shelter within 24 hours. Working with the shelter staff, Silverstone helped arrange Noel’s transfer to Helen Woodward Animal Center, where she safely gave birth to twelve puppies.
New Names and Adoption Plans for the Puppy Family
The twelve puppies were named after the Twelve Days of Christmas, including Drummer, Piper, Lord, Lady, Maid, Swan, Goose, Ring, Calling Bird, French Hen, Turtle Dove, and Partridge. Along with their mother Noel, they are expected to be ready for adoption by mid-February, offering many families the chance to welcome new pets into their homes.
Silverstone Advocates for Rescue and Spaying
During her visit, Silverstone emphasized the importance of adopting animals from shelters rather than buying from breeders or pet stores. She stated,
“This is something that is so manageable and solvable if people spay and neuter, stop going to breeders, stop going to pet stores, and just rescue.”
Alicia Silverstone highlighted how community efforts can reduce euthanasia rates and provide more animals with loving homes.
Impact on Animal Welfare and Future Outlook
This reunion underscores the success of rescue campaigns and the ongoing partnership between Silverstone and animal shelters like Helen Woodward. By shining a light on these rescues, awareness grows about the importance of animal rescue, spaying and neutering, and responsible pet adoption. The upcoming adoption availability for Noel and her puppies could inspire more people to choose shelter pets and support the fight against unnecessary euthanasia.
