Richard Gere, Cindy Crawford Reconnect as Kids Star Together

Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere, once among Hollywood’s most glamorous couples of the early 1990s, are reconnecting nearly 30 years after their divorce. Their renewed interaction revolves around their children, Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere, who are co-starring in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming miniseries The Shards.

Past Separation and Ongoing Personal Lives

The pair married in 1991 in Las Vegas but divorced after four years, and since then, they largely kept their distance. Crawford has previously noted their 17-year age difference as a factor in their breakup, and during a 2016 appearance on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, she revealed Gere had come to feel like a stranger to her. Both have since moved on—Crawford has been married to Rande Gerber for nearly 28 years and raised her daughters Kaia and Presley, while Gere remarried twice and is now a father to three sons, including two with Alejandra Silva.

Children’s Collaboration Sparks Family Reconnection

The partnership between Kaia and Homer Gerber in the miniseries has encouraged both families to support one another and ease old tensions. A source told Globe,

“They’re dropping their defenses and playing nice and they’re doing it for the kids.”

This positive shift is helping bridge the gap that had formed since their separation, with the children’s close connection serving as the catalyst for renewed civility.

Respect Maintained Despite Past Distance

Neither Gere nor Crawford has ever publicly criticized the other. In her 2015 memoir Becoming, Crawford chose not to discuss their relationship, stating,

“It’s not something I want to share… I wanted to be respectful.”

Though not especially close over the years, their children’s bond has encouraged a fresh sense of cooperation. As the source added,

“No matter what happens, you have to put aside old beef and … cheer on the younger generation.”
