Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh Clash in New Action Comedy ‘Mayday’

Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh star in “Mayday,” a new action comedy set to premiere on Apple TV+ on September 4. The story follows Reynolds as a U.S. Navy pilot stranded in Russia during the Cold War who unexpectedly teams up with a former KGB agent, played by Branagh, to survive and escape.

Plot Details and Initial Visuals Released

The duo’s latest project, described as an action-packed buddy comedy tinged with espionage, was unveiled during Apple TV+’s press event in Santa Monica. Reynolds embodies Lieutenant Troy Assassin Kelly, a pilot sent on a covert mission inside Russian territory. When the mission fails, he becomes trapped behind enemy lines. Branagh’s character, Nikolai Ustinov, is a former KGB agent with a surprising fondness for American culture. Instead of turning Troy in, Nikolai forges an unlikely alliance to help him navigate this dangerous situation.

Supporting Cast and Creative Team

Joining Reynolds and Branagh in the cast are Marcin Dorocinski, Maria Bakalova, and David Morse. The film is written, directed, and produced by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who previously collaborated on

“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.”

Produced by Skydance Media under its agreement with Apple, “Mayday” also benefits from Reynolds’ influence as an executive producer. Branagh continues to expand his diverse filmography, having recently directed Belfast,” “Death on the Nile,” and “A Haunting in Venice,” while also appearing in “Oppenheimer.” Meanwhile, Reynolds returns following roles in “Deadpool” and “Wolverine.”

Set to debut on Apple TV+ on September 4, “Mayday” is poised to attract audiences with its blend of action and comedy intertwined with Cold War intrigue. The partnership between Reynolds and Branagh adds a dynamic tension expected to captivate viewers, while the involvement of reputable creators and actors enhances the film’s credibility. As anticipation builds, this release may mark another notable collaboration in both stars’ careers and bolster Apple TV+’s growing slate of original films.
