Hollywood icon Harrison Ford, at 83 years old, has expressed contentment with his acting journey, suggesting the Apple TV series Shrinking might mark a fitting conclusion to his storied career. Starring alongside Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie, Jason Segel, and Michael J. Fox, Ford described the project as uniquely meaningful and wondered how any future work could match its impact.
Discussing the show during Apple TV’s first-ever press day, Ford conveyed the significance of the opportunity, sharing his thoughts on the role within the context of his career’s trajectory.
The Unique Experience of Working on ‘Shrinking’
Ford elaborated on how Shrinking differs from his previous roles in blockbuster franchises like Star Wars and Indiana Jones, emphasizing the fulfillment the project brings him. He highlighted the personal value and importance he finds in this work, which nurtures his creative spirit.
During the panel, he stated,
“This has been a different kind of job for me, and I’ve been doing this for a long time. This is very special and it really nurtures me and makes me feel like what we’re doing has value and importance. I look for that in my life and I’m happy to have found it here,”
Harrison Ford explained.
Portraying a Character with Parkinson’s Disease alongside Michael J. Fox
Ford’s role as Dr. Paul Roades, a character navigating Parkinson’s disease, presented significant challenges, especially given co-star Michael J. Fox’s real-life experience with the condition. Initially apprehensive about portraying a character with such sensitivity, Ford acknowledged the responsibility he felt to honor this aspect authentically.
He reflected on his initial concerns, saying,

“It was a bit daunting when I thought about it, because I am representing a character that has Parkinson’s, and Michael, of course, has the real thing. I’ve always felt a real sense of responsibility for getting that part of my story right,”
Ford remarked.
Ford also praised Fox’s influence during filming, describing the actor as a generous and powerful presence whose strength inspired him.
He added,
“But Michael is an extraordinary, generous and lovely fellow, who I did not know at all and had a chance to, just working on this show. It was an extraordinary experience to work with him. He is such a powerful presence. Such grace and courage and indomitability, and some of that, I hope, will help me colour my portrayal of a character with Parkinson’s.”
The Significance of ‘Shrinking’ in Ford’s Career
With decades of memorable performances, Harrison Ford’s openness about the potential finality of Shrinking highlights the series’ profound impact on him. It represents a different chapter that emphasizes depth and emotional resonance rather than spectacle. This project’s importance lies not only in Ford’s personal fulfillment but also in the awareness it raises regarding Parkinson’s disease, further underscoring its cultural relevance.
As Ford contemplates what might follow, his reflections hint at the possibility that this role may close a remarkable career on a deeply satisfying note, leaving fans and colleagues alike recognizing the evolving nature of his artistic journey.
