Chris Hemsworth is set to headline the upcoming New York crime movie Kockroach, joining co-stars Taron Egerton and Zazie Beetz. Scheduled to begin filming in April, the project has drawn attention for its portrayal of the city‘s criminal underworld, with Hemsworth stepping in after Channing Tatum exited due to scheduling conflicts.

Kockroach is a film adaptation of William Lashner’s novel, with Matt Ross, known for directing Captain Fantastic, at the helm. The screenplay is by Jonathan Ames, who wrote for You Were Never Really Here, with Ross contributing revisions. Producers on the project include Andrew Lazar, recognized for American Sniper, and Christina Weiss Lurie, known for Persuasion.

The storyline centers on a mysterious stranger who rises to dominate New York’s criminal underworld, evolving into a powerful crime boss in a city where influence is everything. Lazar has remarked that the film’s tone aligns with classics such as Goodfellas and Scarface.

Visual effects supervision is assigned to Jonathan Dearing, known for projects like M3gan and The Invisible Man.

Black Bear will manage international rights sales at the upcoming European Film Market (EFM), while CAA Media Finance and Range Select will handle domestic representation.
