Halle Berry Hints at Storm Return but Skips Doomsday

As anticipation grows for the release of Avengers: Doomsday, one question remains about the lineup of characters—will Halle Berry return as Storm? Although many beloved X-Men actors like Hugh Jackman, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen are confirmed, Berry has addressed her involvement and the possibility of reprising her iconic role of the weather-controlling mutant.

In a recent conversation with ScreenRant, Halle Berry expressed her affection for Storm and clarified her absence from the upcoming film.

“Yeah, I love that. Storm is a very special character to me. I’ve been so blessed when I gotten to play her. I think the whole world of the X-Men and being mutants and outcasts. And there’ve been movies that I’ve been proud to have my children watch. They have so much to say that I thought has been really important, especially for my children as they’ve grown. So they’re beloved. And while I’m sad I won’t be in Doomsday this round, there are other rounds. And I would do that in a heartbeat,”

Berry said.

While it remains possible that Berry might surprise fans with a last-minute appearance, her comments and current busy schedule suggest otherwise. The absence of such a major character in a film featuring several returning X-Men stars would be notable, highlighting how integral Storm has been to the franchise’s past success.

The Importance of Halle Berry as Storm

Since her first appearance in the original 2000 X-Men movie, Halle Berry’s portrayal of Ororo Munroe, also known as Storm, has been a defining element of the franchise. Though her initial performance drew some criticism—particularly for an unusual accent and delivery of the “toad struck by lightning” line—it was clear Berry was rising rapidly in Hollywood during that period.

By the 2003 sequel, X2, Berry had cemented her status as a mega-star, having won an Oscar and landed the role of a Bond Girl in Die Another Day. She returned for subsequent sequels and made a strong impression in Days of Future Past as well. Over time, Berry fully embodied the weather-controlling character, an evolution that made it difficult for successors like Alexandra Shipp in Apocalypse to match her grounded presence and charisma.

Berry’s enduring appearance also adds a timeless aspect to her portrayal, making the idea of her returning as Storm more believable and appealing to fans old and new alike.

Potential Future Roles Amid Disney’s X-Men Reboot

With Disney now owning the X-Men franchise, there are fresh opportunities for reinvention and expansion. A possible reboot could see Halle Berry returning as a seasoned Storm who mentors younger mutants. This role would allow her to maintain action scenes while passing the torch to a new generation of characters, preserving Storm’s legacy and importance within the mutant community.

Even though Berry will not appear in Avengers: Doomsday, her openness about future returns encourages hope that fans might see her weather goddess on screen again. Her reflections underscore both the impact of her character on popular culture and the story potential that still lies ahead.

As the movie’s release approaches, audiences await further announcements regarding the mutant ensemble, keeping the door open for Berry’s eventual comeback to the franchise she helped define.
