Margot Robbie Dishes on Rude Co-Star’s Shocking Gift

Margot Robbie recently revealed an uncomfortable encounter with a former male co-star who gave her a discourteous gift early in her career. The Oscar-nominated actress shared the story during a conversation with Charli XCX for Complex, where she described receiving a book encouraging her to eat less.

Disrespectful Book Gift Sparks Strong Reaction

Robbie explained that the book, titled French Women Don’t Get Fat, was given to her by a male actor from a previous project.

“Very, very early in my career, an actor I worked with, a male actor, gave me a book called French Women Don’t Get Fat, and it was essentially a book telling you to eat less,”

she said.

“And I was like, whoa, fuck you, dude,”

she added. The actress made it clear the gift was a thinly veiled suggestion that she needed to lose weight.

“He essentially gave me a book to let me know that I should lose weight. I was like, ‘Wow.’”

Robbie also remarked that she has

“no idea where he would even be now.”

The Book and Its Context

The book, written by Mireille Guiliano and first published in 2004, focuses on French eating habits and practices of moderation. Despite its popularity, the gesture clearly had a negative impact on Robbie, who chose not to disclose the identity of the man or the project they were involved in together.

Margot Robbie’s Rise to Stardom

Since that early encounter, Robbie has established herself as a prominent figure in Hollywood. Her diverse filmography includes titles such as The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), Suicide Squad (2016), I, Tonya (2017), Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), Bombshell (2019), Babylon (2022), and Barbie (2023). She has received three Academy Award nominations, recognizing her talent in both leading and supporting roles, as well as for producing a best picture contender.

Upcoming Role and Praise from Director Emerald Fennell

Robbie will soon star opposite Jacob Elordi in the film adaptation of Wuthering Heights, directed by Emerald Fennell, which is set to premiere this Friday. Fennell praised Robbie’s casting choice, saying,

“Cathy is a star. She’s wilful, mean, a recreational sadist, a provocateur. She engages in cruelty in a way that is disturbing and fascinating. It was about finding someone who you would forgive in spite of yourself, someone who literally everyone in the world would understand why you love her. It’s difficult to find that supersized star power. Margot comes with big dick energy. That’s what Cathy needs.”

Significance of Sharing Such Experiences

Robbie’s candid recounting of this incident highlights ongoing challenges faced by women in the entertainment industry regarding body image and respect. Her rise to Hollywood stardom despite early setbacks serves as a testament to her resilience and talent. As audiences anticipate her latest work, Robbie continues to exemplify strength amid adversity.
