Grand Central Publishing has secured worldwide rights to Michael Douglas’s forthcoming memoir, which is scheduled for release on October 6. The Michael Douglas memoir release will offer an unprecedented look into the two-time Oscar winner’s life, sharing personal experiences that have remained private until now.
An Intimate Account of Struggles and Triumphs
Collaborating with Deadline Editor-at-Large Mike Fleming Jr., Douglas’s memoir will chart his journey from growing up under the imposing legacy of his father, Kirk Douglas, to forging his own path in Hollywood. The book promises to explore difficult moments such as battles with addiction that impacted both his marriage and career, as well as his son’s struggles with drug addiction and subsequent incarceration. Alongside these challenges, the memoir will also highlight his victory over stage 4 cancer and his enduring 25-year marriage to actress Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Philanthropy and Advocacy Highlighted in Memoir
Beyond his career and family life, the memoir will shed light on Douglas’s significant contributions as a philanthropist and peace activist. His involvement in causes like gun control and nuclear disarmament earned him the title of UN Messenger of Peace in 1998, reflecting his commitment to global advocacy and social responsibility.
Douglas Reflects on Sharing His Story
Michael Douglas explained the motivation behind writing his memoir:

“After being asked for many years, I’ve finally decided it’s time to tell my story on my own terms,”
Douglas said.
“Not the highlight reel, not the version shaped by headlines or box office numbers, but the real one. I’ve lived a life that unfolded in public while being deeply private at the same time, and there’s a difference. This is about where I came from, what I fought against, and what I chose for myself. Fame can blur the truth; this is my attempt to bring it back into focus.”
A Storied Career in Film and Television
Douglas’s career spans over five decades, covering acclaimed roles in film and television as well as producing notable projects. His filmography includes classics such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Romancing the Stone, Fatal Attraction, Wall Street, Basic Instinct, and Traffic. He also produced the TV movie Behind the Candelabra, which earned him a Primetime Emmy award.
His accolades include two Academy Awards—Best Picture as a producer for Cuckoo’s Nest and Best Actor for Wall Street—along with a BAFTA Award, five Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award.

he said.
“That he has chosen to tell his story with such honesty and intimacy is a gift to his fans as well as everyone who wants a front-row seat to Hollywood’s most turbulent and thrilling years.”
