Blake Lively Lawsuit Talks Fail, May Trial Set for May

Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s court-mandated meeting concluded without a settlement on Wednesday, making way for a civil trial set to begin May 18. The meeting took place at a federal courthouse, where Baldoni appeared with his wife Emily, while Lively was present alone, aiming to resolve their legal conflict before going to trial.

Background of the Legal Dispute Between Co-Stars

The dispute originated in December 2024 when Lively sued Baldoni, her co-star and director of the film This Ends With Us, accusing him of sexual harassment on set. She also alleged that after raising concerns about his conduct, she faced retaliation through a smear campaign led by Baldoni and his team, which she claimed harmed her career and finances.

In response, Baldoni filed a countersuit in January 2025, seeking $400 million in damages. His claims accused Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and others of defamation and extortion. However, a judge dismissed Baldoni’s countersuit in June 2025, while he remains able to appeal the ruling. Later, in December 2025, Lively’s legal representatives petitioned the court to prevent Baldoni’s effort to dismiss her original sexual harassment lawsuit, which also targets his production company, Wayfarer Studios, a co-producer of the film.

Legal Motions Intensify as Both Sides Seek Court Favor

In November, Baldoni and his lawyers filed a motion requesting the court to dismiss Lively’s sexual harassment and retaliation claims. They argued that her allegations amounted to a series of minor complaints that failed to demonstrate a genuinely hostile environment on the film’s set. Lively’s attorneys countered, accusing Baldoni of trying to evade responsibility by pushing for dismissal.

In their latest effort to avoid accountability for the hostile environment they created during the production and marketing of ‘It Ends With Us,’ Justin Baldoni, [Wayfarer Studios CEO] Jamey Heath, [Wayfarer Studios co-founder] Steve Sarowitz, and their co-defendants ask this Court to shield them from trial, and deny Blake Lively her day in court, by throwing the kitchen sink at Lively’s sexual harassment and retaliation claims,

the motion insisted.

First In-Person Meeting Since Filming Ended

Wednesday’s court-ordered conference marked the first occasion where Lively and Baldoni appeared together since completing principal photography for This Ends With Us. Despite this direct interaction, the parties were unable to reach a resolution, meaning the case will proceed to a civil trial later this spring.

Implications and Next Steps in the Litigation

The failure to settle signals a highly contentious trial ahead, where issues of alleged workplace misconduct, retaliation, and defamation will be examined in detail. The May trial will be a pivotal moment for both actors, potentially setting significant legal precedents regarding harassment claims in Hollywood production environments. Observers are likely to follow the case closely due to its high-profile nature and the serious allegations involved.
