Kevin Costner Teases Return to Sports Movies: What’s Next?

Kevin Costner, famed for his work in classic sports films like Field of Dreams and Tin Cup, has expressed interest in returning to the sports movie genre. At the Fanatics Super Bowl Party in San Francisco, he shared that he would consider making another sports movie project if the right story presented itself.

Reflecting on Past Sports Films and Role Selection

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Costner acknowledged he had plans for another sports movie before the Chicago Cubs’ World Series victory interrupted those plans. He said,

“I had one and then the Cubs went and won the World Series. So I had one at one point. I was going to do it.”

He recalled some of his notable sports films like Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, For the Love of the Game, and Draft Day.

Costner highlighted the unique standing of Field of Dreams and Bull Durham within the genre:

“Field of Dreams and Bull Durham separated themselves. I never saw that as being a risk.”

He stressed that casting and role suitability were crucial for his involvement in a sports movie, stating,

“If you don’t fit in a sports movie, you just shouldn’t do it. Doesn’t matter how much you love the sport.”

Choosing Projects Based on Authenticity and Connection

Costner explained that his approach to selecting sports films involves ensuring his perspective aligns with the audience’s expectations. He reflected,

“I knew I read something great in Bull Durham. I knew I read something great in Field of Dreams.”

He believes that maintaining realism is essential, saying,

Comments on Recent Super Bowl Halftime Performance
