Margaret Qualley Reveals Fear and Growth in Acting Journey

Margaret Qualley has spoken openly about the difficulties she faced during the beginning of her acting journey. In an interview published by Vanity Fair on Thursday, the 31-year-old actress recounted the stress she experienced as she entered the entertainment industry, sharing how these early challenges shaped her approach to her craft and self-expression.

The Emotional Struggles of Starting Young in Hollywood

Qualley shared the intense feelings she endured when she first began acting, recalling a sense of overwhelm. She explained that she feared being her true self, worried that women might dislike her and men could do her harm. This fear, she said, led her to suppress parts of her feminine identity, limiting her ability to embrace the full range of tools that come with being a woman.

“I started working so young, and when I first started acting, I was just overwhelmed,”

said Margaret.

“I felt like if I was fully myself, women would hate me and men would hurt me. And so that took away some of the tools that come with being a woman because I was scared.”

Progressing Towards Greater Self-Control and Expression

As her career progressed, Qualley described a gradual shift toward feeling more in control of her life, which allowed her to embrace her sensuality and femininity more openly. She acknowledged that while she made mistakes in her early career, she views them as learning experiences rather than regrets.

“Gradually, now that I feel like I have more control of my life, I can kind of lean more into the sensual and the feminine,”

she shared.

“When I say mistakes. I don’t mean it was the wrong thing, I mean I wouldn’t do it again,”

she clarified.

Support from Loved Ones Aiding Her Growth

Margaret also mentioned the important role her husband, musician Jack Antonoff, has played in boosting her confidence. According to her, he has encouraged her to explore all aspects of herself without fear. This support coincides with her broader reflections on spirituality and surrender as she navigates this chapter of her life.

“Jack has helped me for sure, because he has made me feel more confident to explore all the parts of myself,”

said Margaret.

“But I’m also thinking about Mother Earth and the divine feminine and surrender. Those are the things I’m trying to lean into, that moment in my life.”
