Sarah Snook Joins Margot Robbie on 2026 Tropfest Jury

Sarah Snook has been announced as a member of the 2026 Tropfest Jury, joining Margot Robbie, the festival’s Jury President, as Tropfest returns later this month. This year’s jury highlights the festival’s commitment to celebrating diverse storytelling through a blend of established and emerging Australian talent alongside international influence.

Distinguished Jury Members Assemble for Tropfest 2026

Alongside Sarah Snook, who holds accolades including a Golden Globe and Emmy Award, the jury will feature acclaimed producer Bruna Papandrea and First Nations director Dylan River. This combination of figures brings expertise from different corners of the entertainment industry, reflecting Tropfest’s emphasis on a broad range of perspectives. John Polson, the founder and director of Tropfest, emphasized that this jury embodies the essence of the festival’s goals.

“This jury lineup embodies everything Tropfest aspires to – Australian success, universal reach, and fearless new voices. Sarah, Bruna and Dylan each bring a unique and welcome perspective. Alongside Margot Robbie, they create a jury that truly reflects the best storytelling of our era,”

said Polson.

Sarah Snook expressed her enthusiasm about her role on the jury, saying,

“I’m so excited to join the jury and celebrate the originality, ambition and heart that Tropfest encourages. So much goes into telling a powerful story in just a few minutes, I’m really looking forward to seeing the finalists.”

Tropfest’s Return Marks a Cultural Moment with Strong Support

After a decade-long hiatus, Tropfest is returning with its signature challenge: filmmakers must submit a new short film incorporating the festival’s “Signature Item,” which for 2026 is an hourglass. This requirement encourages creativity within tight constraints and has long been a hallmark of the event.

The NSW Government has provided significant support for Tropfest’s comeback, with Premier Chris Minns recognizing the festival as “an Australian cultural institution.” In addition to government backing, sponsors such as CommBank, YouTube, Qantas, and Nine Entertainment are partnering to ensure the festival’s success.

Margot Robbie, serving as Jury President, highlighted the importance of Tropfest as a platform for emerging filmmakers.

“Tropfest has long been an important launchpad for filmmakers,”

she said.

“It’s where creativity meets opportunity, and I’m incredibly excited to help celebrate and support the next wave of storytellers.”

The Festival’s Role in Shaping Australian Filmmaking

Tropfest’s re-emergence signals a renewed commitment to fostering Australian creativity and storytelling on both national and international stages. The inclusion of a jury combining global producers, celebrated actors, and indigenous directors underscores the festival’s focus on inclusivity and innovation.

As Tropfest prepares to return to Sydney this year, the involvement of figures such as Chris Minns, John Polson, Margot Robbie, Sarah Snook, Bruna Papandrea, and Dylan River represents a significant milestone for the festival’s ongoing influence in the film industry. Their collaborative efforts are expected to inspire fresh talent and deliver compelling narratives that resonate with audiences worldwide.
