Halle Berry: Why She Refuses to Fake it in Bed

Halle Berry openly discusses her commitment to honesty in her intimate life, emphasizing that she will never pretend to experience pleasure in bed. Speaking on the Sex With Emily podcast this Tuesday, the Oscar-winning actress, 59, shared her perspective on being truthful about sexual satisfaction, particularly with her fiancé Van Hunt.

Halle Berry’s Stand on Sexual Honesty

Berry explained that in her past relationships, she often felt pressured to fake orgasms to boost her partner’s confidence. She emphasized how this behavior prioritized their needs over her own, which she no longer accepts.

“We had to get there so that he felt good about bringing us to orgasm,”

she said.

“We had to say that we did it so that he would feel good about himself. Because what is that doing? That’s putting his needs before our own. And now I don’t do that anymore.”

Berry insisted that mutual enjoyment should be at the center of any sexual encounter, stating,

“I’m like, ‘No, I come first like you come first to you.’ We both deserve to have this be a mutually enjoyable experience, so we both can roll over and go to sleep because we feel good — not one snoring and the other one looking at the ceiling, going, ‘What the hell?’”

The Relationship Between Halle Berry and Van Hunt

Berry’s emphasis on honesty in the bedroom comes in the context of her nearly six-year relationship with Van Hunt. The couple recently confirmed their engagement, with Berry making the announcement on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in early February 2026. This dispelled rumors that she had rejected Hunt’s proposal, as she clarified the situation herself.

“There’s some confusion that he asked me to marry him and I said no, but that’s not the case,”

Berry remarked.

“I did not say no, we just don’t have a date but of course I said yes, I will marry him!”

Hunt had previously shared back in June 2025 that his proposal was still awaiting a firm response. He said at the time,

“So I put out the proposal, and it’s still on hold, as you can see. It’s just out there floating.”

Berry’s Views on Marriage and Past Experiences

Berry’s hesitation to set a wedding date stems partly from her past, having been married three times before. Her previous marriages include one to retired Major League Baseball player David Justice from 1993 to 1997, followed by her marriage to singer Eric Benét from 2001 to 2005, and then actor Olivier Martinez from 2013 to 2016.

Despite these experiences, she remains confident about her future with Hunt.

“We don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don’t,”

Berry said. Still, she acknowledged that a marriage could happen as an expression of their commitment, adding,

“I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married.”

She continued,

“And I feel like I should, we should get married, but it’s not because we feel like we have to. I think it’s something that we would like to do just because we want that expression.”

The actress first made her relationship with Van Hunt public via social media in September 2020, and it has grown steadily since.

The Importance of Mutual Satisfaction in Intimacy

Berry’s candid discussion about honesty and mutual pleasure in relationships reflects a shift toward greater openness around the realities of sexual intimacy. By refusing to fake orgasms, she challenges traditional expectations that women should prioritize their partner’s ego over their own satisfaction.

This approach not only supports healthier and more balanced relationships but also encourages partners to communicate openly about their needs and experiences. For Berry, this means fostering a connection based on respect and honesty, underscored by the understanding that both individuals deserve genuine fulfillment.

As her engagement to Van Hunt moves forward, Berry’s decision to be transparent about sex is a reminder of the value she places on authenticity in all aspects of her life, especially love and intimacy.
