Actors Dave Franco and Alison Brie marked their upcoming ninth wedding anniversary with an early celebration during a recent outing. The couple, who originally married in March 2017, took advantage of a mini getaway to honor the milestone ahead of time. This was shared by Franco during an interview at the premiere of his new Disney Pixar film Hoppers in Los Angeles on February 23.
Though traditionally reserved in their anniversary celebrations, Franco noted they wanted to make this ninth year particularly memorable.
“We went to Ojai last weekend,”
he revealed, adding that the trip was a chance to escape the busy demands of their schedules.
“We’re really good at getting in those mini trips where you can just get in the car and go somewhere a couple hours away.”
Balancing Busy Lives with Quality Time
Franco highlighted the challenge he and Brie face in finding time to be together due to their hectic work commitments. Despite this, they prioritize carving out moments for connection whenever possible.
“We don’t get to see each other a ton. So when we do, we’re like, ‘Let’s go on a trip. Let’s go to the middle of nowhere. Let’s have that nice time together,’”
he explained. The choice of Ojai reflected this desire for a quiet, secluded setting to enjoy their anniversary away from distractions.
The Foundation of a Lasting Relationship
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the premiere event, Franco shared insight into what he believes strengthens their marriage.
“Honestly, I think it’s about being friends above anything else,”
he said. He emphasized the importance of companionship and shared humor, noting,
“You gotta want to hang out with this person, and you gotta be able to laugh with them.”
He further elaborated on the role of humor in their relationship:
“Like, I don’t care if someone doesn’t think they’re funny. Like, you can be funny to the right person. Find that person who you laugh with, and that’s so, so important.”
This philosophy reflects a thoughtful and grounded approach to partnership.
From Meeting to Marriage: Their Journey Together
Franco and Brie first crossed paths at the 2011 Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans. After several years of dating, they announced their engagement in August 2015. Their wedding ceremony took place about two years later in an intimate, family-only setting on the balcony of their Los Angeles home. Following the ceremony, the couple celebrated with approximately 60 friends at a pizza party held at Pizzeria Mozza.
Their story exemplifies a blend of private moments and joyful celebrations in their life together. Franco’s new movie Hoppers, where he provides the voice of a villainous insect, is set to be released in theaters on March 6, making this anniversary period a busy but meaningful time for him and Brie.
