“I reached out when I wanted some advice. I think I cold-called what was United Artists at the time, or something, where he was involved, it was funny. And he ended up getting back in touch with me. The email, they’re like: ‘When can you meet with Tom?’ And I was like: ‘Wow, really?!’ And I went to his house in my 20s, and I met with him, and he gave me advice.”

He’s not a person who underestimates an audience; he respects the audience. He respects the people who watch his movies, and so he’s gonna put his life on the line several times to do that.”

Lipnicki shared how difficult it had been to get noticed by the casting directors through traditional channels, prompting him to reach out directly to Cruise. He recalled,
“People ask about him all the time, we haven’t talked in a little bit, but whenever I have reached out, he’s responded. And a great response time on that guy, he responds very quickly.”
Jonathan disclosed,
“I reached out when they were casting Top Gun: Maverick. Casting was just, I’m sure, overwhelmed with submissions, and my manager and agent could not get me in there. And so I emailed [Tom], and I said: ‘Hey, I don’t know if you think I’m right for this, but if you think I’m right, I’d love to audition for it,’ and I got an audition for it. He got me the audition.”
Although the role ultimately did not go to him, Lipnicki appreciates the chance Cruise provided.
“It didn’t go my way, it wasn’t meant to happen, but the fact he gave me that opportunity, I mean, he didn’t have to, and he did,”
he concluded.
