chris hemsworth calls moving back to australia his best move 2

Chris Hemsworth describes his family’s relocation from Los Angeles to Australia as the best choice they have ever made. During the February 23 episode of the Smartless podcast, the actor shared the reasons behind their move and the challenges they faced while living in Hollywood, highlighting how relocating has positively affected their lifestyle.

The 42-year-old star, known for his role as Thor, joined hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes in discussing his life changes. Hemsworth expressed that the decision to move back to Australia was motivated partly by his desire to provide a better environment for his family, especially his 11-year-old twin boys, Sasha and Tristan, and his 13-year-old daughter, India Rose, whom he shares with his wife Elsa Pataky.

Challenges of Life in Los Angeles

Hemsworth described the difficulties of living in Los Angeles, especially as his children were growing up. He said,

“It was right around the time my boys were born, and it was just, we kind of were set up in L.A. and not enjoying it, you know?”

referring to their time in the city. The actor noted that, despite filming taking place mostly outside Los Angeles, returning home meant facing constant paparazzi and the pressures tied to celebrity life.

He further explained,

“Like nothing was shooting there, we were filming kind of everywhere else,”

and added,

“And then… you come home and there’s paparazzi and all the sort of, the trappings of living in that sort of space.”

Finding Peace in a Coastal Town of New South Wales

Deciding to relocate to a coastal town in New South Wales, known for its beaches and outdoor activities, brought a renewed sense of peace to Hemsworth and his family. The actor expressed that coming home feels like a vacation every day.

“You know, when you come back from work, you want to go on a holiday,”

he said.

“Coming home, for me, feels like a holiday. We have a big farm and horses and motorbikes and surf.”

Hemsworth and Pataky, who have been married since 2010, chose this area for its natural beauty and lifestyle, giving their children room to grow up connected to nature and outdoor pursuits. The family’s large property includes farmland and space for their children to surf and ride motorbikes freely.

Elsa Pataky on the Family’s Outdoor Lifestyle

Pataky has spoken about how vital spending time outdoors is for the family. She described their life in Australia as one where the kids surf, fish, and ride motorbikes daily, enjoying the constant warmth, saying,

“It feels like summer all year round where we live.”

She added,

“We got a big plot of land, a farm with horses, and our kids surf and fish and ride motorbikes all day… and we pretty much do the same.”

She also emphasized that staying close to nature is a core part of their way of life and can be hard to maintain in urban settings.

“It’s just being able to enjoy nature. When we go to a city, it’s hard for us as a family, because we live outside, basically,”

she said.

“We are in contact with nature all the time.”

Significance of the Move for the Hemsworth Family

The decision to return to Australia has provided Chris Hemsworth and his family with a more balanced and fulfilling lifestyle, away from the intense scrutiny of Hollywood. Their home in New South Wales offers tranquility and access to natural surroundings a world apart from the challenges they experienced in Los Angeles. As Hemsworth continues his acting career, being able to retreat to this environment allows him to separate work from family life effectively, supporting both his wellbeing and that of his children.
