Morgan Freeman Slams Trump Leading Us Down A Shithole

During a heated interview on MS NOW last Thursday, Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman fiercely criticized President Donald Trump, boldly expressing his frustrations with the current administration. Freeman’s remarks, laced with profanity after his courteous request to the host, spotlighted his deep concerns about the political and social direction of the United States under Trump’s leadership.

Freeman Reflects on Trump’s Legal Conviction and Presidency

Freeman, appearing on The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell, revisited his previous appearance in 2020, which was tied to the passing of civil rights icon John Lewis. Confronted with the state of the nation today, Freeman asked permission to use strong language before stating,

“Well, we have somebody sitting in the White House who’s leading us down a shithole. I can’t personally understand how a convicted felon, convicted, [with] 34 felon — felonious, is that the word? — counts of wrongdoing gets to be president.”

He was referring to Trump’s 2024 conviction in New York, where a hush money trial concluded with the former president found guilty on 34 counts related to falsifying business records to cover up an alleged sexual encounter with adult film star Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 presidential election. Trump has denied any misconduct, dismissing the verdict as politically motivated.

Freeman questioned the logic behind this, saying,

“When say, ‘Well, he was…,’ I don’t care. That ruling went down before he stepped into the Oval Office. So it just doesn’t make sense to me.”

Historical Comparisons to Rising Authoritarianism

Promoting his Prime Video series The Gray House, which dramatizes a real-life network of female Union Army spies during the Civil War, Freeman drew a chilling parallel between current U.S. conditions and Nazi Germany in 1935. He explained,

“I’m constantly reminded of Germany in 1935,”

detailing how brownshirts marched through Berlin and detained people in boxcars.

He continued by alerting viewers to similar patterns in the U.S., noting that

“Now this administration wants to build large detention centers.”

This observation comes amid Trump’s expansion of immigration detention facilities, with detainees increasing 50% over the past year. Numerous reports have highlighted harsh and inhumane conditions within these centers operated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Youth Disillusionment and the Urgent Call to Vote

Highlighting widespread despair among younger generations, O’Donnell described how many feel the political environment is worse than ever. When asked what message he might have for this disheartened youth, Freeman responded,

“I don’t know what I would say to young people, other than if you are at all aware of where we’re headed, where we are right now and where we’re headed — and if you don’t agree with it — there is one sure way to change the direction of our country: Vote.”

Freeman’s strong critique and historic comparisons underscore his urgent call for political engagement as the nation faces turbulent times. His candid remarks highlight how legal controversies, immigration policies, and political disenchantment are shaping public discourse in 2024 and beyond.
