Aubrey Plaza’s new adult animated series, Kevin, will premiere on Prime Video on April 20. The Delaware-born actress co-created the show and serves as its writer and executive producer, with all eight episodes releasing simultaneously across more than 240 countries and territories.
An Overview of the Series and Its Release
The comedy series features a cat named Kevin, who leaves his human owners after their sudden breakup and moves into a pet rescue center located in Astoria, Queens. There, Kevin encounters a lively group of misfit animals who assist him in discovering what he truly wants from life. Jason Schwartzman voices Kevin, while Aubrey Plaza lends her voice to Dana, the former partner he leaves behind.
Talent Behind the Show and Music
Alongside Plaza, who co-created the show with Joe Wengert—also the showrunner—the series boasts a notable voice cast, including Whoopi Goldberg as Cupcake, John Waters as Armando, and Aparna Nancherla as Judy. These characters are Kevin’s fellow cat roommates at the pet rescue, which is managed by Seth (voiced by Gil Ozeri) and his dog Brandi (voiced by Amy Sedaris). Prime Video also unveiled the series’ title sequence, which features the original song “I’m Coming Home,” performed by Schwartzman. Schwartzman co-wrote this piece with series composer Dan Romer.
Aubrey Plaza’s Career and Role in Kevin
Hailing from Wilmington, Delaware, Plaza began her career performing improv and sketch comedy at New York’s Upright Citizens Brigade Theater before gaining recognition for her role as April Ludgate on Parks and Recreation. Beyond acting, she has produced and starred in films such as The Little Hours, Black Bear (2020), and the crime thriller Emily the Criminal (2022). Plaza also made her directorial debut with the 2021 series Cinema Toast, writing and directing the episode titled “Quiet Illness.”
The release of Kevin marks Plaza’s continued expansion into adult animated content, showcasing her talents both behind and in front of the camera. This series is expected to attract audiences worldwide due to its distinctive storytelling, strong voice cast, and relatable themes of change and self-discovery.
