Harry Styles Upstages Ryan Gosling’s SNL Monologue Surprise

Ryan Gosling hosted Saturday Night Live recently, but the focus quickly shifted to Harry Styles, who unexpectedly appeared during Gosling’s opening monologue. The Grammy-winning British pop singer arrived to observe, drawing attention away from the La La Land actor’s introduction on the Studio 8H stage.

As Gosling began, he noticed Styles and asked,

“What are you doing here man?”

Harry responded,

“It’s been a while, so I wanted to watch, get a feel for it,”

surprising the audience and his fellow performer. Despite Gosling’s thinly veiled jealousy, he joked about mistakenly calling his sci-fi film Project Hail Mary as “Project Harry Styles.”

Harry Styles Becomes the Center of Attention on Stage

Throughout the monologue, the camera repeatedly shifted focus to Styles, detracting from Gosling’s remarks about Earth. This interruption frustrated Gosling, who exclaimed,

“Could you listen less cool? It’s like your coolness is becoming an issue,”

addressing Styles’ onstage charisma. The cameraman, donning an “I <3 Harry” shirt, then switched to a split-screen view. Gosling asked for the effect to end, but instead, Styles took over the main frame entirely.

Attempting to recapture the moment, Gosling tried to perform a song reminiscent of his “I’m Just Ken” Oscar appearance but ultimately canceled his backup dancers dressed as aliens, discouraged by Styles’ dominance. Meanwhile, cast member Sarah Sherman referenced Morgan Wallen’s viral phrase with “Get me to God’s country as she danced over to Styles, underscoring where the true attention lay.

Promotion of Project Hail Mary and a Tense Musical Moment

During the monologue, Gosling promoted his film Project Hail Mary and acknowledged his co-star Sandra Huller, who performs “Sign of the Times” in the movie. He awkwardly noted, “Nobody wants this,” referring to singing the hit song in front of its original artist, Styles. Reacting to the song’s lyrics, Gosling added,

“I’d take a bullet right now,”

quoting,

“Why are we always stuck and running from the bullets, the bullet?”

Cast Joins to Support Gosling Amid Styles’ Stage Takeover

Near the end of the opener, Mikey Day came on stage to comfort Gosling with a kiss, soon joined by most of the cast. When Gosling jokingly asked if they joined because he was the favorite host, the answer was clear—they were there for Harry Styles.
