Juno Temple, known for her role as Keeley on Ted Lasso, steps into a very different world in the new sci-fi dark comedy Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die. The film features Sam Rockwell in a leading part and marks the return of director Gore Verbinski. It tells the story of a group of diner patrons recruited by a time traveler to stop an AI-driven apocalypse, blending humor with emotional depth. Temple spoke with Kyle Meredith about her involvement in this unique project and the film’s ambitious mix of themes.
Discovering the Script During Night Shoots in Spain
Temple first encountered the script while working nights on another major production. She recalls a moment of surprise and excitement.
I was shooting Venom 3 in Spain doing these epic night shoots when the script came into my inbox,
she says.
I had this double-take moment like, ‘Wait, what have I just been sent? A movie that Gore Verbinski is directing with Sam Rockwell starring? Oh my god.’
Once she began reading, she was instantly hooked.
The sun was fully up by the time I finished it. It was such a roller coaster of a script… you had no idea where it was going next.
Balancing Humor and Emotional Complexity
The film’s ability to mix absurd moments with genuine emotional stakes drew Temple deeply into the story.
I was laughing a lot, then feeling the immense tragedy of it and getting really emotional,
she reflects.
It’s frightening at moments and then weirdly hopeful.
This tension between tone is a key aspect that distinguishes the movie from typical sci-fi comedies.
Collaborative Spirit and Sam Rockwell’s Leadership
Temple also spoke highly of the teamwork on set, particularly the cast’s eagerness to support each other creatively.
The cast were unbelievable. We really wanted to help each other with moments and share ideas,
she notes. Highlighting Sam Rockwell, Temple adds,
And Sam Rockwell is a hero — I would definitely follow him to go and save our future again and again.
