The series Zero Day explores the devastating aftermath of a cyberattack that claims thousands of lives and pushes the nation to the brink of collapse. De Niro’s character, George Mullen, leading the Zero Day Commission, is assigned the task of finding those behind the catastrophe. Amid the investigation, De Niro finds himself dealing with personal struggles which only add to the pressure as he already faces challenges like power, responsibility, and truth. Newman, talking about the plot, reportedly revealed in a past interaction that the creators were inspired by projects such as The Parallax View, Marathon Man, and Three Days of the Condor.
Robert De Niro is joined by a talented ensemble cast. Angela Bassett plays US President Evelyn Mitchell. Her character appoints Mullen for the crucial mission. Jesse Plemons takes on the role of Roger Carlson, Mullen’s former adviser, looking for a way back to the scene. Adding to the stellar cast is Lizzy Caplan, who portrays Alexandra Mullen, Mullen’s ambitious daughter, whereas Connie Britton stars as Valerie Whitesell, Mullen’s political operative.
