Dr. Dubrow Urges Kindness Amid Jim Carrey Looks Criticism

Plastic surgeon Dr. Terry Dubrow recently spoke out regarding the intense public scrutiny surrounding Jim Carrey’s appearance, emphasizing the need for kindness in light of ongoing criticism. The discussion gained prominence following Carrey’s public appearance at the César Awards in Paris on February 26, where many viewers noticed a significant change in the actor’s facial features.

During his March 9 interview on Tori Spelling’s MisSpelling podcast, Dubrow shared his thoughts on how frequently the media and fans ask him to comment on celebrity appearances.

“They’ve been asking me about Jim Carrey, Bradley Cooper. It’s like, what do you say when you’re confronted with that stuff? It’s so mean, right?”

Dubrow, 67, remarked.

Public and Industry Responses to Carrey’s Recent Appearance

Jim Carrey, 64, accepted an Honorary César Award at the 51st César Awards, marking a rare public moment for the actor. Shortly after, videos of his acceptance speech circulated widely, prompting much discussion and speculation about his looks, with some fans suggesting extreme theories.

Gregory Caulier, the César Awards’ general delegate, addressed the rumors that emerged, such as the outlandish claim that Carrey was replaced by a clone. Caulier clarified the situation by stating,

“Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer,”

and detailed the actor’s dedication to his appearance at the event.

“From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words.”

Caulier further shared insights into Carrey’s support network during the ceremony, saying,

“He came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again. For me, it’s a non-issue. I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance.”

Dr. Dubrow Calls for Empathy and Respect Toward Jim Carrey

Dubrow acknowledged that many fans have grown accustomed to seeing Carrey look youthful over the years and admitted that the actor now looks noticeably different. However, the doctor emphasized a compassionate perspective regarding these changes.

“I still think he looks great,”

Dubrow stated.

While Dubrow did not confirm whether Carrey has undergone any cosmetic procedures, he noted that post-surgical swelling can significantly alter a person’s appearance for an extended period, explaining,

“[Swelling] can take a long time to go down.”

Dubrow strongly condemned the online dissection of Carrey’s appearance by other plastic surgeons and the media, highlighting the harshness of such scrutiny.

“He’s kind of our national comedic treasure. Can’t we be a little more kind?”

Dubrow asked. He also added,

“Every plastic surgeon in the world is going online and talking about, ‘There’s less skin in his upper eyelids and his brows are higher,’ and they’re, like, dissecting him with a microscope, which is so unfair, I think, and uncool. … Don’t body-shame people and don’t body-shame celebrities. It’s kind of like body-shaming to really be doing this.”

The Emotional Toll of Criticism on Public Figures

Beyond the physical observations, Dubrow appealed to the public’s empathy, considering how such negative comments might impact Carrey personally. He reminded listeners that harsh judgments affect the wellbeing of individuals in the spotlight, concluding,

“So, if you’re human, it bugs you, and I just think it’s really uncool.”

Dr. Dubrow’s plea underscores an important conversation about respect and kindness in how public figures, including Jim Carrey, are treated amid changing appearances and aging. As discussions continue, his message encourages focusing on the humanity behind celebrity faces rather than superficial criticism.
